YM2210D is dying

I have an old Zen Noh (Yanmar) 2 cyl. diesel tractor (YM2210D) in need of some serious mechanical TLC. Its burning more oil than diesel, the tranny is iffy (not always engaging) and the hydraulics are sluggish (front end loader and a box blade on the 3 pt.). Its 40+ years old and I knew there were issues when we picked it up last year.

I did a thorough power wash yesterday so I can check for obvious leaks. I have topped off all the fluids and will do a test today. It starts right up usually.

Does anyone know of a good, reputable small engine diesel mechanic who can help with a smoky engine and wonky transmission/hydraulics? I travel a lot for work and do not have the time to tear into it myself. I am located in Waldo, FL, just outside of Gainesville (Go Gators).

Long ways from me but bound to be someone in your area to tackle it. Likely to get expensive knowing ring job at minimum plus fluids, etc. Best of luck to you and keep us informed.:thThumbsU
Good News! I found a local mobile mechanic who came out to the house today and diagnosed it. I got online to Hoye's and ordered a loaded head, rings, bearings, gaskets, hydraulic pump and oil pump. They already shipped the parts! He'll be back on Friday for the install!

If anyone in Northern/North Central Florida needs a good guy, call Jimmy Lewis @ Jimmy's Auto and Diesel Repair - 352-478-One ate two nine. Everything from my little 2T90 to a Big Rig. A real nice, knowledgeable guy!

Sounds good, let us know how it turns out. Maybe a video?
That would have been my answer. The old engine needed rings and gaskets because of the oil blow-by. You got a smart guy there. There should be a few diagrams on the web for the YM2210 to help with the tear down and rebuild of the top end or thru the bottom if that works.

FYI - - - > You will notice that when the work starts, you may need to order a few other gaskets. Hoye in TX and Fredricks Imports in AL are two good places for this. If one is out of stock, call the other one.

Winston, do you have any diagrams for this engine.

Still processing the YM2610 manual. Got thru another 20 pages this past weekend. :)

It's been a little while, how is the YM2210D running?

Another thought, have you clean the hydraulic filter recently or replaced it?
