Well we finally got the engine out of my friends yanmar pulled the plate off the bottom of the engine to look and the crank is broken looks like it was run out of oil.
Now comes the problem How does the flywheel come off! I used my biggest puller and that sucker will not move I put a lot of pressure on it and some heat and it still wont move. Any ideas?

Pat,

I'm not familiar with the TR16 engine?? Is it a two or three cylinder diesel? Normally a good saturation of penetrating oil, even heat and cool down and another application of the oil (while the puller is under load) will brake free the stubborn ones...

I might be able to access LMTC's manual and see if there is something besides the flywheel bolts holding it to your crank shaft. Really need the tractor's model number though.

2TR16=YM1600. We've got most engine parts, including a new aftermarket crankshaft, but frankly a total rebuild of that engine might cost what a 1600 is worth. The crankshaft is nearly $500.....consider that we sell a YM1500 in excellent condition (see our website) with warranty for $3795. We don't sell 1600s because of the age....they are a generation prior to the YM1500/1700/2000.

Thanks for the replys,It's not my tractor I'm just helping the guy out, Ok flywheel is off, The tractor is a ym1700 2 cylinder thats what it says but it has a 2tr16 engine, It appears it needs a rod and all the bearings, pistions are not worn so a ball hone and new rings.
so right now what I can see needs:
1-Crankshaft
1-connecting rod
2- rod bearings
main bearings
gasket kit.
And some time and other parts I'm sure

Then someone stuck an engine from a YM1600 in it...that's probably a bad sign (vn). Definitely price around, as some of us discount larger orders, some do not.
A green 1700 should have a 2TR17, and a red one a 2TR17A.

Oh boy...Pat!

I admire your willingness to help a friend out but this is a can of worms.

I agree with Wayne's input about this engine being substituted for the original 2TR17 (I should say I KNOW he's right). I can't imagine anyone making this swap other than the imported S.E. Asian models that have come from the recycled piles.

A complete (newer/better supported model) tractor replacement could very well be as much as, or less than sourcing parts and a complete rebuild. Once your friend does the rebuild I honestly believe the residual value of the Yanmar will be considerably less (and less desirable) should he want to sell, trade or operate the tractor with the underpowed-orphan 2TR16 engine.

Just my opinion though. Good luck!

I have the parts you need to rebuild your engine, I also have a rebuilt 2tr16 engine, new mains (std), new rod bearings (std), new oversize pistons, rebuilt head, new injector pump, new injectors, new cyl liners. You can look on the left side of the transmission to see if it is a YM1600 or YM1700.
