if an engine has a blown head gasket it's most likely gotten too hot at some point and done warping or cracking to the cyl head . headgasket isn't much , head repair or replace will get expensive . I'd go with the yanmar , hydro pumps arnt too hard to replace usually .
Some older engine designs are known for leaking head gaskets after some amount of time even though there has been no prior overheating. That's one of the reasons that engine designs have changed over time.
