X540 - LP36741 Weather Enclosure Installation Video

Here's my video for installing the Weather Enclosure. I purposefully let the video run through the more difficult/awkward parts of the install so you get a good idea of the struggles I went through.

All-in-all, when I'm not trying to make a video, it now takes me about 15 minutes to put together ... mostly because I store the frame and door assembled. The first I put it together from scratch it took about 2 1/2 hours ... with lots of fancy expletives thrown in for good measure.

Great Job Al, another very informative video. And wow that is a tight fit going out garage
Al, well done video! Do you think the 3 curved top frame sections could be straightened to effectively lower the overall height? If so it looks like a 2 to 3 inch height reduction is possible. What do you think?

The only thing with straightening curved sections out, you would lose tight fit of canvas and plastic. Pretty sure standard height of garage doors is 81 inches, so unless you have a smaller opening, snow build up on ground etc, you should get thru

Pete judging from your pictures last year covered in snow, I think you could use a snow cab

Great video Al! Thanks for documenting this install. Nice job with the camera as well.

You don't want to mess with the top curved frame as it will mess with the roll cage strength ... :sidelaugh

But seriously, things won't fit right with the soft enclosure. John Deere made these too tall. I'm 6'-2" and have tons of head room above me when sitting in the enclosure.

Just because I know someone is going to ask, I recently checked my tire pressure. The fronts were at 14 psi and the rears were at 10 psi. I know some people run them at quite a low pressure, but I've never had a problem with loss of traction on my driveway.

I guess if you were ambitious, you chop off an inch or two off at the quick connect pipes. You'd leave the swaged narrow end alone, cutting only the larger diameter side of the connection. Then you'd have to drill a new hole for the quick-connect ball. THEN you'd have to find a talented person with a sewing machine to cut a strip all around the enclosure and re-sew back up ... to maintain the tight fit. WAY too much work for me.

In the end, all you need to do is ensure you don't have a build up of snow immediately outside of your garage door. If you have two doors like I do, you can dedicate one door for the tractor ... assuming you don't need the second door for another vehicle. This makes it easy to avoid snow being packed down and built up by your car tires.

Thanks :thThumbsU
Here's a link to my initial thread on the Weather Enclosure. It has some information that might be useful to those thinking about buying one of these.

Thanks for the great video. I will be attempting to put my cab together tomorrow. Hoping I have at least 81" of clearance on my garage door. Any challenges on assembling the door for the cab?

The cloth over the door frame was a VERY tight fit. But once you have it together, you'll never have to do it again.

When I installed it for the first time, I thought JD had made an error with the cloth part of the door. I swore it wasn't fitting over the frame properly. But it did ... just very tightly.

Good luck :thThumbsU

Tony,
Yes, we were buried in snow this time last year and I vowed to get a cab however plans changed. My cab cash was spent on removing dead Ash trees. We had all the Ash trees removed due to the emerald ash borer. I put a ton of sweat equity into the job but the bill was very expensive. Next year I'm hopeful a cab will be in the budget.

Thanks Al for posting this. I'll be watching it later as I'm waiting for my new enclosure to be delivered.

So you're saying we missed the really entertaining video!! :sidelaugh:sidelaugh
Al was right, the door was tough. My father stopped by to help, really had to stretch the material. The tabs in back of the cab were very tough to clip as well. Might be a year around cab if it doesn't stretch much. But it is a nice fit after its all together. Oh, accidentally knocked the cover to fuse box and the starter relay off when connecting the flaps to the hood. Took me a min to figure out why it wouldn't start... I measured the cab to about 78" tall. It does brush the top of my garage. Didn't put the chains on, wonder if I can do w/o them until it gets icy. I do have 50lbs of weight on each rim. Hopefully that will help. The video was very helpful in knowing what to expect. I did have to turn a line on the power steering a bit as it would have interfered with the belt. Also before I attached my snowblower I made sure to tweak the rods for the quick hitch so it would lift as high as possible.

Got it installed ... way to go! :thThumbsU How long did it take you from start to finish?

When measuring the height, did you measure to the very top of the curved bar? The only way I could measure it semi-accurately was to measure the door opening, then measure the clearance remaining. Most door openings are 84" high, but the door itself can sit slightly lower when in the fully opening position.

Looks like they changed the color. Looks good though :thThumbsU
Ordered mine today..hemmed and hawed on whether to get deere soft cab or OTC- in the end I just couldn't justify the extra money for OTC ( a great cab) My driveway just isn't that long, so basically just need cab to keep snow off me for 20 to 30 min.. soft cab will do fine
I measured again. It's more like 78" tall on the sides and about 80.5" at the very top of the curved bar. My father said when I came in the garage, the top just brushed the rubber on the bottom of the garage door. Hopefully if I need to add chains it will still make it...
