Hello Rglass - I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but you don't have to hold the switch while in reverse. You just need to pull it up while you start in reverse and then continue in reverse and the PTO will stay engaged.

Once I figured this out, the RIO feature wasn't nearly as annoying.

I got used to mine on the X540. If it's that big of a deal, why on earth did you buy the tractor? (That's a rhetorical question.) I don't know how to bypass the switch. Don't even want to know. If you do bypass it, and the tractor has to go into the dealer for warranty repair, I think the dealer is supposed to reconfigure the safety feature and they won't cover that under warranty.

. . . and this site does not condone overriding safeties. Any discussion of this must be taken off line. :)
:Stop: No more need for replies to this post. I probably shoud not have asked for help. I have the schematic and figured it out already. It works great, but don't ask for any details as I will not disclose any safety stuff. By the way, I purchased this tractor for the hills in my yard. I need the differential lock to climb some of them without ripping up the grass.

rglass,

Congrats on your purchase! :)
What are wheel spacers and who sells them?

Surely you guys don't think that all "safety" features are really necessary and beyond being able to be discussed...or even bypassed. Careful consideration is one thing...a "Nanny State" is another! :(

There's been a recent thread regarding the philosophical pros and cons of disabling the RIO and other safeties, so let's not rehash them here:beatdeadh

That said, Mine were disabled when I took my tractor to my dealer for service, and when I got it back (they had installed the rear pto and 3-point lift), the safeties had magically been reconnected. They never mentioned warranty violation, and if you ask the dealer, all they can tell you is that it CAN be done, but not HOW.

Sorry! I'm kinda new here and did not see the other threads.
I went back and read the RIO thread...very interesting. The one thing that comes across clearly is that we are already a "Nanny State"...both the USA and Canada. :smilie_fl :OHCAN
I'm pretty old (I think), and seem to remember when people took responsibility for their actions...not anymore, it seems.
You are right that no more beating of a dead horse needs to take place here. I would comment, however, that the thread was informative and thought provoking. If ever there was a correct place for such a discussion to take place, it was in this forum. Thanks. :congrats:

rglass,

Not sure what tractor you have, but Deere came out with 1" wheel spacers for the X7xx tractors originally to allow for more space needed for rear chains. Several of us figured out that they would work on the 2210/2305 sub-CUTs and greatly enhance stability on slopes etc. They are a bit pricey through Deere, but I wouldn't be without them. :)

Are the X700 series, non 4WS models, set to their widest position from the factory? I haven't taken the time to measure but my JD 425, I used to have, were set to the narrow position and I eventually flipped them for a wider stance.

rglass1144 wheels spacer's atleast for the X700 series tractors are for the All Wheel Steer Model's to Be able to Put Chains on the Rear Tires it mounts to the Hub first then you mount the Tire&Rim to it and it provides a few Extra inches of clearence.
