Looking for a new mower and debating between the X380 and the X570 models. My yard is about an acre and 1/4 of it is about a 25 degree slope. Looking for something's that will last a long time however do not want to overspend if not necessary. Any advice between the models?

I have a X500 which is pretty much identical to the X570. Before purchasing I also considered a X300 model but the deciding factor for me was the differential lock on the X500. I have slopes and grades too and with my previous tractor I was constantly getting stuck, especially when pulling my trailer or roller. I vowed that my next tractor would have a differential lock. Had the X300 model had diff-lock I would have gotten it, as it would have been more than adaquate.

A X380 would probably do it-- but you would be stressing it for sure-- considering you have a acre and hills, diff lock is nice option to have, plus the K72 in the X570 will laugh at your slope-long term the X570 is in my opinion the better tractor for you - easy for me to say since its not my money ;) But it is a more powerful tractor

thanks for the quick reply, I will not be pulling a trailer up the slope, nor making turns with the tractor on the slope (straight up and down). How do you think the 380 would be going down the slopes? I tried my neighbors 350 up the slope and it made it up the steepest part.

Thanks for the reply! It is always fun to spend other people's money! Leaning towards the 380 as it is within budget. The 22hp and K58 seem like a good investment.

Well something to Keep in Mind the X370, X390 & X394 all have serviceable Transmissions meaning you don't Have to remove the Transmission to change the Trans oil. In order to service the X330, X350, X350R, X354, X380 & X384 You need to remove the Transmission from the Tractor All X500 series tractor Have a serviceable Transmission (y)

I have an X390 and truly love it as a mower. It has everything except the diff lock. To be honest, I live on a hilly yard with a lot of rain and have never used a diff lock when I had one. I've had several GX345's and X500 series with them but have never found the place to use one. I've had 420's and 400's but have never used it on any of them. The X390 has the K58 and one-inch axles along with an easily serviceable tranny. It is a little more than the X380 but well worth the difference. IMHO

I know Pictures can be deceiving But Looking at that slope I would actually recommend a X570 for Your Use. But it could be More Gradual than Your Picture where a X300 series with a K58 Might just be fine (y)

That look like a steep slope. I would seriously consider the X570 or X580. The X570 has manual steering, while the X580 has power steering, which many people like. But, you could probably do okay with the X390. Or you could just get an X738 and never wonder if you should have bought bigger 😉. I would suggest trying them out at the dealer (when it is okay to do that again). At least sit on them to get a better idea of how they feel. If you can drive them around the lot and on hills there, even better. I found being able to drive them one after the other made it easy to feel the difference. The X739 felt bigger and more like a tractor, but I also noticed hesitation/surging with it. Turns out that was my foot causing it. Maybe because the seat wasn't set right, but it was part of the reason I decided the X500 series was the better choice for me.

While there is a decent amount of depreciation in the first few years, an old X500 or X700 series tractor is still worth a lot of money a decade later (unless it is really trashed). That makes the cost of ownership not quite as bad over the long run.

Keep in mind that a K58 is a K46 with some add-ons for SLIGHTLY improved performance and easier maintenance. It may have a reasonable life with the approximately 10° slope in the last pic. Such will not be the case with the approximately 20° slope in the pic with the tree and retaining wall.

The hydro will be working with the same pressure whether going up the hill or down, and that pressure will be high. High hydro pressure creates heat and causes wear.

Minimum transmission for those slopes . . . K72,

If you want the same tractor for 20+ years . . . K92.

I was in the same situation as you 3 years ago. I have 1.25 acre lot with a pretty serious hill on one side. I was weighing the options between X300 & X500 series for months. I ended up searching MachineFinder.com quite a bit. I went with a 1 year old, still-under-warranty, low hours X590 (with JD 0% financing!). I have never regretted it. It seemed like overkill at the time but it's not. It's just right. Whatever you settle on, get HDAP tires for that hill!

Thanks for reporting back, but if there are no pictures, it didn't happen 😉.

I am sure you will really enjoy the X570. It is a significant transaxle upgrade from the X390. I have now had more than one occasion where I have needed the difflock on my X534. When I first got it, I wondered if I really needed the difflock, since the heavier weight of it was a significant improvement over the the X300. I don't need it every time I mow, but I am sure I would REALLY miss it, if I didn't have it.

Thanks all! I ended up with the X570 and it works like a charm going up and down the hill! I had to use the differential lock once in a steep spot going up but no issues.
Pics or it's considered a lie. :ROFLMAO:

Congrats on the x570. You made the right decision with that slope in your yard.
