Hello...I am very new to this site, but have been posting for the last month because I too, was looking for my first lawn tractor. I had so many questions, read over tons of information and tried several brands. I think I might have over done it on the research, but in the end, I just purchased an X300 myself and it will be delivered this Tuesday or Wednesday. I know the X300 comes in the regular 42" side discharge deck, mulcher deck and rear discharge that you are asking about. I purchased mine with the mulcher deck, so I cannot comment nor am knowledgeable enough to provide you with how the rear deck will do.

I can tell you that you will get many replies from some great and very smart and savey people who can steer you in the right direction and let you know how that rear deck performs. Good luck with your tractor too. When I test drove it, I was very impressed and the Kawasacki motor is so smooth and quiet.

I could not have made my purchase so enjoyable without the help of everyone on this site. They really care about all of us.

:MTF_wel: and enjoy the forum. If I was going to buy that size of tractor I would be looking at the R model since you would be able to trim using either side of the deck, nothing hanging off of the side of the deck to bag with and easier to dump the clippings. I'm surprised they haven't sold more of them. slkpk

Welcome to the forum!

I can't think of a down side to your choice, but I wonder if cleanup might be a bit more involved.
Wanted to welcome you to the forum.

I can't really say much about the rear discharge. Would be great with a lawn sweeper, especially during the fall and winter with all the leaves.

And when you get your tractor remember:wwp: .

Yep. Can't speak for everyone but many of us tend to read all over the forum and not just the JD threads, so post pics of whatever tractor you get. You will another just gives us a reason to visit and read the Cub threads.:ROF

:goodl: with your tractor hunt.

Makes no difference to us what color or type tractor you buy as we like them all. Pics are mandatory other wise the first round is on you:trink40: ! slkpk
Does any one have pics of a rear discharge in action. Any line up will do. I would love to see what the lines of discharged debris look like.

I need to check and see if they make one for the X500 series. Being able to edge with both sided of the deck would be real benefit.
:Welcome1:

yeah, most all of us here will do our best to steer you towards a good machine. but we won't hold the make/model of what you choose against you! we like pictures of pretty much any machine you can find.

the folks in the other color forums tend to frown on JD Green pictures, but we like most any color! :sidelaugh

I think I saw a video of an X300r on YouTube once.

You were right. Here it is. Pretty sweet set up.

Yeah that is a neat catcher. Its too bad he had a busted hood for the video. They do a terrific job, but I'm wondering with a large lawn you would be dumping all the time and where do you dump it when you live in town.
I just bought a x300r. The rear discharge is incredible for going through and around trees! It gives you so much extra trim room without the side discharge. My only issue is the fitting of the rear bagger. It doesnt fit well and can be quite cumbersome to install. Otherwise...I am ecxtatic over the x300r!

Concrats on your purchase! I was wondering, can you mow without the bagger?

Wow, I didn't even realize that JD had built a rear discharging riding mower. That's why I love this site!
Seeing That this is a Old post!
Tomwom Yes There is a Rear Discharge chute for the X300R and even a Mulch Plug:thThumbsU

Not sure why you would want to do that, because at that point you paid an extra $1000 for nothing. Just wondering...

I do a lot of mowing between garden beds and I don't always want to bag it. Plus, I need a mower that won't discharge from the side throwing grass on the vegetables. I know I could use a mulching deck but was just wondering about the rear discharge.

I also would like to know what the clippings look like if you don't use the bag.
