Have you ever gone by the John Deere dealers in Virginia? They always have stuff sitting around. I go by mine for parts for my Craftsman. They all should have a dead pile out back.

I have seen some John Deere tractors for sale without the deck on some websites. Have you checked facebook or craigslist?

Yes, thoroughly. On a different tractor forum, I found a guy who needed a new motor for an x485. But he posted in December and I just saw it today. Messaged him. He already sold the tractor
