Thin down an existing wrench on a belt sander ?

If you know someone that has a milling machine they can make one for you from flat bar stock. It doesn't have to be a high strength tool as all it does is hold the adjustment nut while torquing the nut in front of the fan.

Here's what I use. It's an adjustable trap wrench, found at most common home improvement stores in the plumbing section. A really cheap, cast piece that does the trick.

I had ground the wrenching flats smooth for another project as I think the original flats possibly had a step in them (can't remember for sure)??

Found a link to some really neat tools on this page.

If you can find one, it would be ideal. For now I cheat and use channel locks with the teeth wrapped in duct tape.

I went to Fastenal and ordered an offset wrench. It is an Armstrong thin pattern pump wrench. If I remember it was pretty expensive ($25-$30) and could fab my own a lot cheaper. Hind sight is 20/20.

BrassCraft 3 way steel plumbers wrench model T162

Home Depot SKU 639377 $8.24
Everyone, Great input.
I was under the impression it had to be thin, like a bonney aviation wrench.

I will try some channel locks first, if i caanot find someone to make me one.

thanks to all of you

Be careful using the channel locks on the nut. They work good but too much pressure can crack it. Just enough pressure to hold it while putting torque on the front 3/4" nut at 45 ft. lb.

Mine is a Bonney wrench that was 1 5/8" and I milled it to 1 3/4". I'm a retired aircraft mech but I have sold all but a few of my Bonney type wrenches.
No doubt that Channelock pliers would mork just fine.

Mork just fine
Mork may be fine for you, myself, I preferred Mindy...:sorry1:
Hey guys, I mentioned before that I "cheat" and use channel locks, no problem with that at all.

But please consider wrapping the teeth in some kind of tape, the clutch adjustment nut is a soft metal that will scar up pretty easily if you put those bare metal teeth on it.
