I have an offer to trade my 1100 hour 455 with a 40 loader on it for a 200+ hour X 540 even. I was leaning more towards $1,000 cash to me as well. What do you guys think. To me, I have owned an X 540 it is really just a nice big mower, whereas the 455 is a great mower plus the FEL. It is just so much more useful. I haven't had one single looker at the 455 and I guess its the price of $6500 but it is like new and I will just keep it before I sell it for chump change. I looked up Tractor Data and Farm Equipment sales and they show about in the mid $4000's for the used X 540 maybe up to $5000. But those were still under warranty this one isn't. It looks nice and there are no broken plastic parts so that is a nice feature but it has the mulching kit on it which I don't care about.

No I wouldn't I'd keep it first before I'd trade even. Your looking at diesel to gas and less tractor. Yours with 1100 hr is nothing. I'd see what kind of trade in at the dealer for a x590 before a x540.

no way I'd make that trade - even with $1K thrown in your favor

Do not trade. Sell the loader by itself, and the weights you could keep. Then sell the 455 with just the mower deck. You will have a better chance selling it. In my opinion $6500 is too much. That would be someone paying top dollar for everything you have. Even in very good condition it would be a tough sell at that price. The x540 trade is way too low. With $1000 is better but still not worth the trade.

You guys came up with about what I came up with. One is a nice lawn mower and the other is a multi use tool that can also mow. I'll probably keep it because I have had two other 455's and this one makes them look like used junk. The loader is rust and scratch/dent free. I suspect it was bought by a gentleman farmer who never used it. I love the 455's. They were one of the best JD's ever built. Thanks for the advice.

Why were you even considering the trade? The hours on the 455? I would never trade down.

Come on... I think you guys are being a little harsh on the x540. Sure it might not be in the same league as the 455 but its definitely more than just a mower. A D110 is JUST a mower. :p

I've been using the plow, box scraper, and disc harrow more than the mower deck all summer on my X530.

Not a chance. The 455 is a much more capable machine and with the FEL on it, forget about it.

The only positive to the trade would be that you would have newer rubber parts on the x540. The 455 is at the age where orings, hoses and seals will be leaking, u joints and tie rods will be showing age. I would still say it wouldn't be a good trade.

If you don't have a use for the loader and more use for cash then sell the loader and keep the 455.

I'm not bashing the x5 in any way. Heck, the x5 is a very nice machine. It's just that the 455 is a beast, with or without a loader. My neighbor has one and I was always amazed at the amount of work it could do. It's the main reason I decided to go with my x7.

Not a chance. Of course I'm a little biased. I really want a FEL for my 318 which is no slouch but not a 455. I also want a diesel and world peace.:howdy:
