I have a cub cadet ztr that is only 3 years old and while it is running, it idles up and down even though the throttle is all the way on fast, and it will only run if I keep the choke on.I know this probably is not good to run it with the choke on , but if not it dies out. I change the oil every season and replaced the plugs this year. What could be wrong? Thanks:fing20:

Welcome to the forum.

Could be many things, but it sounds like fuel starvation is the problem from what you have provided.

Is the gas old?

Try a can of Seafoam. Works wonders on surging engines. Use some in the gas tank, in the oil, and down the throat of the carb to help decarbon the engine.

BTW, oil should be changed according to the number of hours run, not by the season.

Welcome to the forum. It does sound as if it is fuel related.

Speakin of fuel- do you fill other mowers out of the gas can you use? If so- do those things have troubles? Bad/dirty fuel is the problem.. If yes you do but this is the only thing with troubles then you have some sort of fuel related problem.. Things to check":
1) vacuum or air leak in the intake system.
2) plugged tank & or line filter
3) plugged fuel inlet or main jet.. improper float/fuel level
4) plugged or malfunctioning fuel shut-off solenoid or valve if so equipped.

Good luck!!
