Hello all an engine swap newbie here trying to find an older Briggs to fit my older R series Snapper Comet RER for restoration purposes.
As we all know, the older Snapper RER tend to have replaced engines. I am trying to find an engine at least similar looking to the 6hp original from the 60s.
My question: if I find a similar motor on a walk behind, will it match up mounting wise and shaft wise? What if I find one on another brand RER ?
I also suppose that there could be different carb/tank configurations for the same engine but I don’t know.
Any thoughts or help appreciated.
Thx
Greg

Most engines with a 1 inch diameter crankshaft ,of various HP. will fit the RER. some later B&S engines will interfere with the "flares" on early fenders , some will trim the fenders, A lot of other brands fit ,but I'm not sure which , I think the 11 & 13 HP Hondas will fit without trimming.
