why is my carb pouring gas out?

I got my 8HP. Briggs on my 2550 RER. The governor was screwed up and the engine almost blew itself up but I got that worked out. Now the carb drips gas out of it when I open the shut off valve. What is causing this? I planned on rebuilding it sometime. Will that fix it or do I need a new carb?

Check the float level inside the fuel bowl. It's not set right and is flooding. The float should be parallel with the carb base and close the needle valve to stop fuel from flowing into the carb. May be a bad needle and seat but most likely float out of adjustment. Good luck..
You carb float needle is not seating properly. Cause may be a speck of debris is under it, needle tip may be hardened or worn out. You need to replace the carb float needle and seat IF you can. Needle most likely will do it BUT you still need to continue to shut off the gas supply valve whenever the engine is not running. This is very common now days.

If you can take off the float shake it to see if there is liquid inside it..

Could be some junk keeping the needle and seat from sealing.
