I found this sexy beast for the grand total of $0.00! The previous owner went out to mow this spring and it didn't start, so he went and bought a new mower. He got tired of pushing the White out of his garage, so I genourously helped him solve his problem. My wife is at work and my toddler is too inquizitive to help me work on it now, so I am pacing with anticipation to get it running. I turned the key and nothing. That is all the previous had done to gt it running as well. If nothing else, I scored a new seat for my 990. At best, I scored another backup mower to fill the shed with.

Pictures are as she sits in the truck:

Nice, i almost picked up a White just like that a few months ago for $10, only problem was a dead battery. I had to chose between that and a WH 212-6, i chose the 212-6 haha. Looks like you got a briggs 11.5 or 12hp I/C? i got one of those sitting under a tarp outside, good engines very reliable.

Engine is a briggs 14.5. I own an old wheel horse B-115, an old case 444, and an MTD 990. I love all of these machines for different reasons. This one I really have no use for, but my wife took one look at it before she left for work and she likes the new LT more then the useful GTs I own. I can see keeping the White around for a while. I have never owned a bagger and this is a hdro afterall...

I have 2 tractors with that same engine ... if yours is butchered, I'll be happy to take some photos of mine for reference ... mine are in a '95-'96 Murray and a mystery MTD rider that has a few panels that look eerily similar to your white

good luck with it - great score!

if you get it running and mowing, that should be worth $200 at least on CL

Ohh, the one i saw must have been a smaller model, looked very similar though.

The reason i chose the wheel horse, was because i liked the looks better, and its not going to be used for mowing or anything useful besides messing around, its still being built up (my avatar pic is the hood, with scoop and paint). Looking back, i really should have just payed the $20 and taken both...but oh well.

Well, my wife came home and the rain let up and I failed at my first startup. I know the battery is junk. My charger would only display the fault screen and my voltmeter showed only .1V DC so a new battery will be needed. Now comes the question. Could the battery cause this? I took a set of cables and jumped it(the battery) to my truck and the engine would would crank but very slowly. I would call it a flopping sound. Crank-flop-short pause-crank(more slowly)-flop-longer pause-crank. I had the negative hooked to the frame and the key off, when I took a jumper from the positive to the starter, I got the same slow crank. Any ideas? Thanks, Jimmy

quite possibly the battery as a bad battery will cause many strange problems I once replaced a starter because I could not get mine to start even with jumping it . I ended up replacing the battery and it fired right up with barely touching the key . but could also be the starter is a little tight from sitting take it apart and clean it up and lube it . It will last longer that way to because it will turn more freely and build up less heat

Thanks cowboy, I was going to get a battery this morning either way. Seeing as I know the battery is junk, it is a great place to start. The starter is my next option, but I am hoping the battey will take care of it. The preious owner never tried to get it running. The battery under the seat has seen at least 9 years of sitting through WI winters and the guy went and bought a new machine becuase this one "wouldn't start".

VICTORY! A $20 battery fixed the problem and it started right up, ran mowed and bagged like new. Of course I got the, "what are you planing to do with all of these tractors?" speach from my wife again, but that's to be expected. I am going to pull out my pressure washer later and give it a bath and then start thinking about down sizing the herd. My mowing duty wheel horse might be sold off to get me a new toy(box scraper) for the 990.
