From what I can tell from reviews, most homeowner / entry level pressure washers are equally hated. Are there any that stand out from the pack in say the sub-$3oo range?

My 10 year old GBH Power Menards special gave up the ghost today while pressure washing the deck. The electric motor just started bogging down and the started humming. One diagnosis might be a capacitor, but not sure of that since it did die while it was running. I thought those only showed at startup?

My uses are mainly washing the deck every other year and then my OPE a couple times a year. I do like the ease of an electric one, but could be talked into a lower end gas one. I was looking at the Harbor Freight gas pressure washer, which would come in at $240 after rebate. I'm not scared of the engine, but I don't know much about their pumps, etc.

Any suggestions to whittle the choices down? Good experiences? Or is this one of those products where you just buy one and cross your fingers?

I'd shop around on craigslist for a good, used Karcher or other brand name gas job. I got mine about 6 years ago for $120 and it has been one of the best purchases I've ever made. It was almost new and is a 3000 psi "prosumer" unit with a Honda engine. I've used the heck out of it and it does a fine job. Patience is your best friend when searching.
