I have a Wheel Horse Raider 10 - 6 speed.

The tractor runs and mows, but the engine over heats and I have stop mowing.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Thanks.

There are only two possabilities that come to mind.
The fins on the engine need to be super clean in order to cool properly.
And all the "tins" need to be in place for the engine's fins to function
and cool properly.

There are a couple other possibilities.
Carb is too lean or the timing is too retarded.
First check to see if the flywheel fan shroud has a mouse nest in it.
As the last person said, all the engine sheet metal must be in place & clean.

I have also come across an exhaust valve that is hanging up when things get good and warm. Put some marvel mystery oil in the fuel to help clean things up.

I have had some good results with it on older stuff--whether it's my imagination or noot--just seemed to run better later on...You can find it @ Dollar General stores very reasonable......

Not to sound stupid but how can you tell if an air cooled motor overheats or is running hot???

I believe it's over heating when the paint starts to burn, the motor starts to smoke and my nuts start to turn crispy.....also the motor starts surging...:banghead3

DoubleTrouble.....I can tell just from experiencing a few tractors.
You can run most on a warm summer day and after running it around
for a few hours......you can touch the hood and not get burned.
I have a C-100 you better not try that with. And you can feel the
heat coming back at you.....moreso than a typical tractor.

Ok thanks, I just got mine running and want to make sure I don't abuse it. lol I've played with the carb a bit and don't want to lean it out to much. I set it to the factory specs per the tecumseh manual and tweaked it a lil while using her. I think I got her just right for now.
