Hi everyone. I was cutting grass yesterday with my trusty old GT22.5/KOHLER22.5/50"/HYDRO when all of a sudden..It started to bog down,...started to load the engine to the point of backfiring,...then I noticed the deck was no longer operating. I disengaged the pto & low & behold the KOHLER COMMANDER ROARED back to life,,,Smooth as it always had been. I tried to engage the deck again but it no longer is willing. When it does try it only boggs the engine down again. Does this sound like an electric clutch issue???Please advise & I hope someone out there has a good used electric clutch assy for this. Thanks for any help, Randy ( P.S......I finally found a nice hood assy for this GT & now this?? lol ) :banghead3 MODEL# 917.250560

Does it appear to be only running on one cylinder? While its idling try pulling off the spark plug wires. When you pull off a wire and it dies that is the cylinder giving you the problem.

Check for one or more siezed mandrels or idler pulleys. Have someone sit on the tractor and engage the PTO while you look under the left side of the tractor to see if the lower pulley attached to the electric clutch is trying to spin. Even better, pull the deck belt off and do the same. If so, clutch is good and is a problem with the deck.

Thanks for the replies folks. As it turns out the battery was low & it wasn't providing the required 12vdc for the elec. clutch to operate properly. A fresh charge & some battery maint. & its cutting again. Have a great 4th everyone!

WOW. Didn't see that coming. One more thing to put in my book of troubleshooting tricks.
