what year is my 214?

Hey all,

I have a 214 of unknown year. It has been missing the vin plate since I bought it and the previous owner is unsure of its age.

It has a manual PTO engagement, louvered engine covers, solid yellow 214 stripe, manual deck adjustment, and... a grill emblem!

I realize that some of this could have been changed but I'm pretty sure that the manual PTO was only available in the earlier years.

Any ideas or help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

:wwp: Sounds like its from the 70s.
Am I able to post pictures with the basic membership? If so I will try to get pics up in the morning.
You should be able to narrow it down with information from WFM:

Welcome to MTF, yes you can post pictures, can't wait to see your 214.
Posting pictures on the site http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=1594 this should help:thThumbsU
Assuming that your description of the engine side panels is correct your serial number would be higher than 70001 which would make it a 1977 or newer model. Not enough detail to help you out any further.
thanks all

assumin all is original according to the link that ggsteve posted it is either a 77 or 78.

thanks again

I will attempt to post pics in the morning. Is there anything in particular that a picture of would help to determine year?

If you had a picture of the secondary belt idler (under the tractor and towards the rear axle) there is a difference in those at SN 80001. And a difference in the parking brake assembly at SN# 95001.
I will see what I can do.

There sure is a lot of knowledge on here!!

Glad I stumbled across this forums!

Thanks

Abe, I'm going to put the diagrams of the item up here for you so you can take a look at them closer yourself. Probably pretty hard without taking the seat pan and pedestal off to get a decent picture but you should be able to see them. The differenc on the secondary belt sheve is the arm to the small pulley. The older one is a one piece unit. On the brake mechanism you would be looking to see if your is the same as this diagram. Good luck!
