What type of oil should I put in the gearbox of a 30" brush mower? I did some grass cutting yesterday and got me thinking about changing the oil in the gearbox. The manual states to use SAE 140, but my local auto parts store only has SAE 90/140. They told me they have not made SAE 140 in years and the 90/140 is the replacement.

No brass gears in the deck 90/140 should work fine,, I have run it for years in my deck along with some grease due to a bit of shaft run out.

Thank You for your reply. I will pick up a qt. on the way home and flush out the oil stuff and fill it up with new oil.
