With so many threats about the K46 trans-axle, I got to wondering what have I got? I have a 2005 John Deere G110 and I`m not sure if it has the K 46, got 212 hours on it, it`s always been very noisy. Looking at JD parts catalog it`s part # AM131257, the picture shows a plug #23 says, fitting plug. Then part #31 (2 of) oil drain in lower case half. Do the parts listed about make this unit more serviceable? I looked at a picture of the trans-axle used in the L130 and they don`t look the same or use the same part #`s. How many different K46`s do they make?

Now checking the on line owners manual on the transmission, I get the same statement as owners with the K46 trans-axle get, is that JD`s way of covering themselves.

A while back, I checked a on line supplier of parts and he had some trans-axles for use in the G110 but these had a plastic oil reservoir, like those used on the GT series, I didn't copy the part number down wish I had, and now they are sold out very good price, under $300. I wonder if that part #23 is where that oil reservoir is attached.

The transmission is a sealed component. No maintenance is required on this transmission. If you suspect any transmission problems, please contact your authorized dealer.

Thanks for telling me what I have. Glad I don`t have the K46, but that not much help for those with trans axle problem. I`ve never really consider the G110 as a garden tractor. Never thought about using it for anything more then a big lawn mower. I`ve never even paid much attention to trans axle or what it looks like under my tractor.

Don`t even know if there is a oil reservoir attached to it, like in the picture from JD parts catalog. Sure would make things simpler if there is. The rear of the G110 is all enclosed, I`ll have to crawl under and have a look. I use Mobil 1 in my Z Master 15-50 or do I need to use JD`s hydro oil? The gas tank is above the trans and filler is in the center, no way to look down from above.

Yep, K66. Good tranny. Just so you know, that bottle (#18) is just an expansion tank. You normally won't see any oil in it, so don't be alarmed if it's empty. As the trans warms and the oil expands some may make it's way in there.

And likewise, if you change the oil don't overfill the trans. Fill the housing 100% using that plug and that's it. Don't fill that tank up - it should remain empty or maybe just a little in the bottom of it.

Wow thank you I took my gas tank out to clean and saw a small tank and a filler cap and flipped out because they told me it was sealed and not to worry about the Trans but still the small tank had no cap 9n it and dirt is getting into it should it have a cap and what oil should I put in the filler cap because I see no oil in it.

Welcome to MTF.

This is a more than decade old thread. It is fine to reference it, but it would have been better to start a new thread with complete information about what you have.

Do you actually have a G110 or something else?
If it is the transaxle overflow container that is missing a cap, it would be a very good idea to deal with this immediately. That includes at least one if not two remove and replace fluid operations. If it has been operating for a long time open to air, there is likely dust in there. Best case it is caught by the filter and the filter isn't blocked up yet. Worst case could be a lot worse.

So, start with telling us the model number, year and hours and your history with the machine.
