What tractors will my JD 40 FEL fit?

I'm separating my JD 40 from my 455 and have had some people asking what the JD40 will fit. Does anyone know which series the 40 will fit? Thanks

North American , Two-Wheel Steer Tractors: 415, 425, 445, 455
I have heard it will also fit the x4xx liquid cooled models but I have never seen it
The loader itself will fit most GT's and SCUT's. The subframe and front diagonal bracing may require tweaking or replacement to fit other makes and models.

The loader arms and the hydraulics attached to them are the expensive parts. The rest is cheap and easy by comparison.

Any tractor you really want it on.
See the second post. That is your answer.
It will fit an x465 also something different because of the air cooled allowed it to work

:ditto:
Back when the X400/ X500(early) series Came out I was Interested In a X465 was Told sub frame from 45 Loader Interfered with cooling of the air cooled engine But Deere Corp told Me the 40 loader would work on the X465. I had a JD 425 at the time with a 40 loader. But finally decided to get a X485 for EFI. So In theory The 40 loader should fit the Rest i.e. X475 thru X748. But You would also have to re-route Hydraulic Hoses to Opposite side of tractor for quick couplers :thThumbsU

Pretty sure on you tube there is a 40 loader on a x749. But the easy answer for sellers that don't know is the second post.

You may be correct for the easy to install answer for the buyer, but someone looking to sell such an attachment is usually looking for the wider market of owners that may be willing to do a bit of "adjusting" to get into the FEL scene, rather than a very limited group of owners with specific models.

Just because it's green and has different mounts does not make it unacceptable to owners of other brands who have some fabrication skills, just more expensive than similar loaders that may not be available when a person is ready, or needs, to buy.

The thread heading is "What tractors will my JD 40 FEL fit?" The answer is: Almost any GT. It may be too narrow for the Craftsman FF series hoods.

The objective is to sell the loader for something close to the desired price. There is a higher probability of getting that price with a group of 1000 potential buyers with other makes and models than there is with a group of 100 with the specific models that will require no modifications.

^^^^^^I do understand this. I was giving advice to the original author going by his history trying to sell this loader and tractor. He doesn't want to sell it cheap. That means nobody that has the capability to modify the loader to fit their tractor will pay what he is going to ask for it. If he listed it for $500 it would be gone in under a day I would be willing to bet. But that is not the case so the second post should be what the OP needs. John Deere's around my area are a dime a dozen. But if they are priced right or below market they will sell in a few days. This has been the case for every single one I have bought or sold. Green is gold around here. The OP's tractor is very nice so it should sell easy but the asking price is a little high.

Bob, much like wfburton said this is a case of the loader being worth more to Deere owners because it fits without any modifications, tools, or any high degree or mechanical acumen. What we have to realize is 90% or more of the people that call the OP to buy that 40 loader are looking for a plug and play. They do not have a back ground in hydraulics or even turning a wrench... Sad but true... I bet in many cases any buyer would haul the machine to a shop to have the loader valve installed. Probably the most asked question about my x748.... "How much did it cost to install the loader valve and shim the hydraulics"..... Folks looking to buy that loader are looking for a plug and play.... Not a project.

I think we can all agree that many of us to cobble some type of mounting system for a majority of loaders out there..... In fact I have seen well executed and not so well executed loader modifications on here... But all the modification were on loaders that were less than $1,000.... Our beloved green stuff is high priced so I doubt anyone contacting the OP will be looking to modify the model 40 loader to fit anything other than a Deere.... So we provide Deere answers... All around answer: the 40 loader will fit any machine you want.... The real answer: the 425, 445, and 455...

This video shows an x748 with a 40 loader.

That loader doesn't have the original subframe. The mounts for the posts were cut off the original subframe, and welded onto a custom one. The model 40 has these curvy pipes going to the frame just behind the front wheels, then the frame goes back to the rear axle bolts. Here's a pic of one mounted as intended. If you find just a model 40 loader without subframes, they are VERY pricey and rare.

There is a thread somewhere on here with pictures of that set up where we picked that mount apart...... Basically the mount it a hack job IMHO..... ruined a bunch of good components and wasted a bunch of money to make something fit..... again IMHO.

Yes all these last posts further point to the three models or four if you count the 415 that were stated in post #2. It might fit on others but you will have to modify it from stock. Right now he is trying to sell a stock model 40 loader. And I wish him the best of luck.
