What is the disk for on this plow? Is it necessary? I was giving an old plow and it only has the arm and turn-over blade.

I will need to do some work to make it work on a sleeve hitch. It is pretty old.

I know it is a piece of junk but I am just starting out on ground engaging and I need to start somewhere. If it not worth in trying to get it to a workable piece of equipment I will look at something else, I thought it was free give it a shot.

That is a sod cutter. It is not absolutely necessary, but it does make plowing easier by cutting the roots of the sod allowing it to lay over easier. I think that it is also called a "coulter."

If I am wrong on the coulter, let me know.

I scored a nearly new Brinly sleeve hitch plow and an older double gang disk harrow for $125, so it depends on what your time is worth and how much fun you would have working on it.
