I have a 1985 Simplicity 7790 with a 2 cylinder Lombardini air cooled diesel.The owners manual says NOT to run multi viscosity oil.-4 to 32deg. F run 10W,32F to 68F run 20W and 68deg. and above run 40W.I want to run synthetic Amsoil/Mobil 1???Any thoughts on this???

Back then, most or all diesel rated oils were single viscosity. The oils you're looking for are not available today. I would use a CI rated 15/40 either dino or synthetic. I don't know that that vintage of engine would tolerate a CJ rated oil.

Straight weight oils are getting much harder to find, Amsoil HDD 5W30 diesel oil, or AME 15W40 Heavy Duty Diesel and Marine oil will perform super in your lombardini diesel.

I use the 15w40 Amsoil in my diesels.
