I have a Husqvarna 45 Special chain saw that I purchased new in the early 90's. It has been a work horse and very reliable. Does anyone know why it's called Special? Is there something different from the 45 model of the same time period?

I really can not say on that model in particular but the special branding has meant many things over the years, just like the XP branding. With the model 50 the special branding indicated the last version right before it became the model 51. In some cases it can mean the difference between a open and closed port cylinder, sometimes not.
