I don't remember which one best back in school. That was 4 years ago

I think 6018 is for weld flat and 7018 for vertical? That correct?

Welder is Miller Big 20 powered by estimated 38 hp? 200 amps DC with 100% duty.

I would say I be weld vertical sometime but would say mostly than flat because I be weld steel frame to hinge since they are common to sag. Weld plow stuff.

Is 7018 good for this?

7018 should work okay, I would use 6011 or 6013 IMO

Any rod that has a 1 in third postion is a all postion rod, there is no such thing as a vertical rod,7018 you can weld overhead flat any postion, there are flat rods 7028,7024 etc, flat and horazontal maybe.
Never heard of a 6018,sure you meant 7018?

Yes,7018 is made to run on dc,,would get some 6010 plus rods[they are a dc rod too] and maybe 7018,put root and hot in with 6010,out,[maybe] with 7018,,7018 are a low hydrogen rod,so if your going to use them, after opening can, they need to be kept in a rod oven,or might as well use 6010 all out.

When I'm talking dc,I mean dcep,,stinger is hooked up to positve terminal[+]...

Any rod I've ever used works better on dcep,,,but if you got dc,,expand your horizons,,use a dc rod[which don't run good on ac]

I burn whatever I find at the junkyard... They come in 50# boxes...
Sometimes I stick the rod to the metal untill the water boils out...
I can use most anything...
I love finding boxes of nickel rods. You can weld most anything with them...
