2. Love Sears or hate them, they had a much better Craftsman tool stocking policy than what's happening at Lowes so far. At Lowe's, I can't find single tools, only sets. Sears had everything broken down to individual tools (in case you lost one or otherwise didn't need or want to spend the money on a full set).

Yes, I know Ace has the basics, but their selection is very limited. Still better than Lowe's, of course...

Yeah, I don't know how it was legal for him to take a loan out against Sears employee's pension fund, bankrupcy comes and then pension fund goes to the banks.

I used to buy quite a bit of clothes and other items at K-Mart when one was a mile up the road--after that one closed up about 15 years ago,the one in Brockton MA was our only choice, which is at least 15 miles away..haven't been there or bought anything in years, but when I did go there I'd often find Craftsman tools marked down to half price or more,so I rarely bought any new tools at the Sears stores..

I took a chance buying a couple a pairs of shorts online from K mart last spring. They didn't fit, and they provided a prepaid label for the return. All communications was Sears Customer Service. All attempts to get a refund have been ignored. So, one expensive lesson learned, don't buy Sears/Kmart online.

I also figured I didn't buy enough from Amazon to go Prime. But I tried it with one of their promotions. Now, with free shipping my use has gone up substantially. Being rural, I no longer have to drive 10, 20, or 30 miles to get things not carried in my small hometown stores. You do have to comparison shop to be sure it's not worth the drive, however.

Amazon provides great service, and usually it's cheaper. However, just recently I found a fairly expensive garden ornament for my wife. To my surprise it was a few dollars cheaper to my door from the manufacture's website even with Amazon Prime free shipping. Further, I emailed the company and they are giving my wife a discount for her military service.

I know Lord and Taylor takes returned online purchases. My wife will buy 6 pairs of shoes from them online. When she gets them, she'll try them on and say she has to return 2 or 3 pairs because they don't fit right. Its just an excuse to go to Lord and Taylor store and buy more clothes.:tango_face_sad:

Just saw on local news today--the last 'local' Sears to us (18 miles) is closing by Feb. 1. Sad--but the way of retailing, as everyone wants to order on-line.

I , myself, do still like and wear the verrsitile Sears work (twill) pants, as they are comfortable and last a long time....Just ordered four pair, on-line past Sunday--already got two pair from one location. Before that one option goes away,. too. Two of the pairs only cost 13.00 ea. Pretty good--free shipping, too.

My mother worked for Sears. The only things I ever bought there even with her discount was hand tools. They are all from the 50's through the 70's.
My retches are old flat handle Snap On. My first was given to me by the Chef Piety Officer ( He said take good care of this set.) I'm still taking good care
of it 51 years later. The other old flat handle Snap On retches I pick up at the Army Navy Store. They all still look new.
I helped a neighbor work on lawn equipment. Other brand we could get parts at the local lawn mower shops. Sears had special parts no mater who built them
that you could only get form Sears. Wait two weeks for parts with something tore down in your way. That stop me from buying lawn equipment from them.

Well I stopped shopping at Sears 20 years ago. I stopped buying their tools around the same time when they would not replace broken my sockets and a 1/4" drive ratchet. And no I didn't break the sockets with an impact. I actually bought a K-Mart brand 300 pieces tool kit "benchtop" and still have 90% of them only due to loss. I think I broke 3 sockets and the 1/4" drive ratchet the rest got lost in moves, on the off road trails and so on..........

Someone mentioned Harbor freight. Well yep that's my go to place anymore. I have stuff I bought there 10 years ago that I beat the snot out of and it's still intact. When I was working as a mechanic 9 years ago I did buy Crap-On stuff, paid too much and the warranty didn't live up. I had a drill I paid $300 for and had to have it rebuild 3 times. The last time the guy said that's it no more. Really? I had a 1/4" drive ratchet go bad and they would only rebuild it once. WHAT?

IF and I say IF Craftsman brings things back to the US I will consider buying from them again if they have a warranty on their stuff and stores to go to. If not it's HF tools. The tools are 1/2 the price with no warranty BUT I can buy 2 for the price of one with a warranty that they may or may not hold up to. I'm hard on tools and the HF stuff has held up so...........

With that said the only 2 Sears stores near me have closed in the last year. HF took over one of the stores, the K-mart near me is closing in Elizabethtown PA plus the one in Lebenon looks like they are about to close with 1/2 empty shelves.

I will not go to wallmart unless I have to.

Honestly I would rather buy American made BUT if it's 3 time more and the warranty stinks why? Dang-on bean counters and CEO's that make $400K a year for nothing is what is killing these companies. I'm all for free market but dang...........

I am sorry for the guys that own Craftsman tractors though and trying to find parts. :tango_face_crying:
