As far as I can tell, its just an oil filter ($60 new for the kit) wheels and steel wear plates on the height adjusters. JX75 s are going for $350 in good condition and $400 for worn jx85s around here. I dont know if it's worth waiting. If you find a nice JX75 for a good price, snatch it.

Thanks, podor. I think I will buy it. I guess there could be upgrades in the future. I understand these are legendary mowers, like some of the old Lawn-boys...

I have a 14SX which is the early version of the JX85. Here are the differences:

- Steel wheels vs plastic
- Steel wear plates for height adjusters and deck edges
- Steel plate around the inside of the housing to prevent broken decks
- Stronger steel handle with bolted connections
- Oil filter
- 15-20 extra lbs.

A pristine JX75 can go for $300-400 while a nice JX85 can easily be $500+. The JX85 is not worth the extra trouble for most people IMO. These mowers have a strong following as you'll see around here.

Thanks, Y,
The 85 sounds like it is built like a tank. What are the extra problems folks encounter with them.

The jx75 wouldn't be in leesburg would it? I love my jx75 only issue I have with the mowers- as if I am even worthy of complaining is the hard plastic wheels. They ride rough over bumpy lawns but the machines cut the grass and leave it like a carpet. I have an oil filter on mine with Amsoil synthetic oil and it runs so clean I have yet to see the oil change color !

I've heard the wheels do NOT fit but I'm not sure what the reason is. If you can attach the plastic gear to the metal wheel, I see no reason why it couldn't fit. The steel wheels do offer much better traction.

I read that the steel wheels were $90 a piece? If thats the case, ill pass myself. It was a little frustrating bouncing over roots. My yard is very bumpy. With a 1/2 full bag, it will lift the wheels off the ground. I cant see the steel wheels being much better because there isn't much rubber to cushion the bumps. The Toro pro wheels are hollow rubber and are pretty thick. I can get them for under $30 a piece too.

yblock is guess you arnt ever going to know for shure till you try it for your self. sadly i found out the hard way -they dont fit. the jx85 uses a diff height adjuster. you can find this out by going to the jdeere parts lookup. i wanted to make a commercial out of my 12sb and bought steel wheels (used) from ebay. yes you can use jx75-14sb plastic wheel gears on the steel wheels-but they dont last long. i only tried this cause i couldnt get the metal gears from my dealer. turns out you could get them all along -he was just looking up the wrong parts! whell hes out of biz now anyhow.
