I found a case 155 lawn tractor and was thinking about buying it but don't know if it's worth what he's asking. He's asking $900. Says it's all original. Comes with a mower deck and says it runs and works great. He just replaced the transmission cooler hoses were leaking so he replaced them. Minimal rust, no dents. Is that a good deal? I haven't went and looked at it yet, just saw it for sale and was curious. I believe it's a 67 or 68?

Here are a couple pics. I've been looking at other lawn tractors that age and it seems like I can't find a john deere for less than $600, and that's in rough shape. Most decent ones are around 800-1000. How come the Case 155 is only worth around 300? Just not as desirable?

By the looks of it, that 155 was redone at one point. The number decal on the side would seem to be incorrect. Does it run? It looks fairly sound but what is pictured, is not complete. The front of the hood, on the tower pcs, there should be 2 side pieces there, (1 on each side) They would be difficult to find, but also not that difficult to fabricate.

Cost wise, it's all relative in my mind.

I think I'd fall over if that 155 was available in my neck of the woods for less then his asking price. When they are restored, they are super nice looking little machines and personally I would think at $900, it's not a bad price and I'd be talking business with the owner.

These 155's don't come around very often,, so it's up to you, and I wouldn't get caught up with what it's worth posts. It's in the range, looks fairly complete, for a running tractor.

Parts for these are a bit of a problem, but nothing that can't be overcome with proper sourcing. I'm currently working on a 67 Case 195, fully restored from the ground up and I haven't come across much I couldn't replace with new. My PTO clutch was a bit of a problem, but I worked my way through it. Mine is 80% complete, and the only hold up now, I'm waiting on delivery on my rebuilt motor from Kustoms,

Go for it, because if it was near me, it would be gone already and you'd be left talking about it!

He says it does run well. He is still putting it back together, that's why it's apart in the pics. Which sticker is incorrect? Case or 155?
I have noticed that I can't find many of these for sale compared to John Deeres.

Attached to this post are 3 links,

They are of current ads advertising case 155's. Depending on availability, also dictates prices. The one link, shows a restored case 155, nice looking little tractor but for me, that one would seem to be on the high side, The other 2 links, would be in the "general range" of the one you posted about. The lowest priced one, from what I can see, would require a bunch of work,,,

It's been pointed out to me that apparently around your region these are very common and lots are available for sale. Using a search engine, I couldn't seem to come up with much around Michigan at this time. Maybe others, could post some links to give you a representation of pricing,,

Are all of the pieces there, (front grill, front panels) as indicated earlier, finding parts for these, at least for me, has been a bit of a challenge. Nothing that I haven't over come, but regardless, still a bit of a chore.

FYI-- Perhaps others will chime in, but to fully restore one like this, (others as well, ie Case, Deere's, Craftsman's, ect, in other words, all brands) costs way more then you'll ever sell it for. That's to do it correctly, and just not slapping lipstick on it, and calling it restored! So, something restored, is a keeper for yourself, something you can use, without having to work on it every time you go to use it. It is something you like doing and enjoy the end result, not for resale because there is no money in that! (if you have thoughts of doing a restoration)

Lastly, to answer your question, the number on the side, would seem to be a bit oversized. Compare it to the restored one in the link and you'll see a difference. The restored one, if you look at it closely, seats appear correct, the muffler appears correct as well.

I would agree the one your after is a bit pricey, however another consideration is if you bought one at $300 that needed a full restore could you do it for an additional $600 - time + money? I am not suggesting you should pay the asking price but don't assume you will have to - certainly you may get it much less upon an offer.

What you need to know is if the missing side and grille pieces are there, as mentioned the "155" is wrong but that can be remedied through Maple-Hunter and so can some of the missing sheet metal through Steve Guider or Jim Daenzer.

Most important is the condition of the engine does it smoke or knock etc.

As mentioned these are pretty common around here so don't be in such a hurry to buy one.

The 120, 130, 150 180, 190 are less common. Also keep in mind attachments for these rarely add value as most of these are regulated to light duty and shows and parades.

The reason for the price disparity between the Case VS the Deere is people go gaga for the Deere's and not so much for the Case, many a time the Deere's are over valued and the Case can be under valued. I have been to many of show's were all of the focus is on the Deere's ironically many spectators will complain of to much green and yellow and not enough of other colors at the show.

You better jump on the 195. Depending on condition and running wise. Because if that 155 is worth 900 my should be worth 1200.
Its like everything, there worth what ever somebody will pay. Take the resellers they like to steal and sell high.

I decided not to buy it. It looked really good but it hadn't been started in 3 years and he just poured gas in it and ran it. It wouldn't run well at idle or fully off of choke. All the fluids needed to be changed, and I would do new plug and points. Also clean out the gas tank, lines, and maybe carb.

Put seafoam in the gas( double dose per gal ) it will clean the carb
