Picked up a couple of Murray friday evening. One is a generic murray.

The other one I'm not sure of. Its a Murray Ultra maybe. It has a 20hp B&S twin with a 46" deck. Says Murray Ultra on the hood. It also says automatic on it, has a Tuff Torq k65 transaxel.

The color throws me, its blue. Don't think it has been painted as the color is the same under the decals. Also I chipped a fleck of paint off and looked at it under a magnifer. It appears to have only one coat of paint. Someone went to a lot of trouble to get all of the original paint off, fleck came off frame behind rear wheel, or this is original paint.

Can't find a model tag anywhere, looked under seat, under dash, around frame and below seat pan, any place else it might be?

Guy said the red 13.5hp ran good last time but has sat for about a year. Massive hole in deck front
Also said the Ultra would run only on full choke, we all know what thet means.
It has a overdrive button on the dash, what overdrive.

Oh I gave $60 for both including 3 extra wheels and tires fir the Ultra

The Ultra looks like the normal "teal" to me in the pictures, but with heavy oxidation. Mid 90's I'd say buy the looks of the deck hight adjuster. Being a cyclops should make it a little easier to i.d.. The model # will be

46???x6A
46???x6B
46???x6C

The trick of course id the 3 missing numbers. I have been trying to "crack the code" so to speak over at murrayownersworld.com, but right when I think I figured it out I hit a stumbling block.

I would check the following links and click on models that start with 46 and have one of the 3 x suffixes. Engines are not always identified, but sometimes they are at Parts and Service. At that site some tractors are online, some are not. If there is a number like this in the parenthesis [13,0] the schematics are there. If the numbers are like this with the zero first [0,13] they are not online. That should save you some clicking.

Parts and Service

Another Site To Try

http://www.ordertree.com/partlist/manufacturer/models?id=9&mn=Enter+Model+Number&page=1

This site lists by year also. Your machine looks to be pre 1997.

I think you covered the bases on where to look for a tag. I have seen them on the rear/drawbar area also, but they are hard to miss.

Hope this all makes sense, I'm side tracked with a car breakdown that is gonna run me who knows what. hey at least Christams is not right around the corner. :banghead3:banghead3

$60, heck that's $90 worth of scrap.

Yes it do! That would be the 86 18/42. Deck in barn, added ag's, sleeve hitch and you might make out a plow. Can't really see it but to the right of it is a Cub and the 82 Murray GT.

I think you hit it on the 46404x6A. Makes sense the motor is dated 1995 so a 1996 would be about right. Now I have a broken head bolt to get out!

Have not even started on the other Murray but I am not out a lot of money if nothing works out.

BBY did you get your car fixed, its a pain when the car is out of service.

Cool,

Glad we found a match.

No fix on the car yet, trouble shooting online I'm suspecting a faulty ignition module. I'm gonna have to have it hooked up to get the codes. Right off the bat if I can install it I'm already $170 poorer for a new one, probably $50 for the diagnosis. No freebie Auto Zone/Pep Boy scans around my parts. Still got Xmas shopping to do to boot. Oh well, what are ya gonna do .....

When my boy was still home he talked me into buying a thing called AUTO-TAP. Plugs into a laptop via usb, has a very nice interface. Reads codes, resets codes and shows real time parameters. It has been very handy especially when the squirrels chewed thru the wirring harnesses on the truck.
Note I said harnesses, more than once. Got revenge on the squirrels.
Thanks

I ended up getting the $50 Harbor Freight Special. Has good reviews, no bells and whistles. Just gives and clears codes. Came up with a misfire on cylinder #1, which narrows it down to about 25 different things lol. I eliminated bad coil, most likely a bad injector. I need to remove the fuel rail and investigate.

Hi Slow Crawler,

Just outside of Murfreesboro. In your list you show a 84,85,86 18/42 is rhat correct? Cool!
I have a 82,84,86 18/42. Do you know when they went to the square headlights? The 82 has round. I had to replace the bulbs, it has par36.
Bought some halogen I think maybe zenon, dont remember. Those will shine 200 feet at least. Talking about headlights!!

Soon I have to get some photos up, BBY can't wait

RonT

Ps: Just picked up a Murray 15.5/42 I think it is a 2005. Guy said it had a bad starter, as soon as I opened the hood and saw a ohv i figured starter was ok.
It is. Still need to fix a few little things on it.
So much to do, So little time. And cold to boot.

On the gt's, 1984 was the switch to rectangular lights, a little earlier on the lt's.
And yes, I can't wait for the pics lol.

Just thinking I might go out afterwhile and get some pics. You don't mind if they are a bit dirty do you, to cold for me to wash.
Anyway they are not show queens, they are working guys.
All joking aside, don't go out of your way on my account. I hear you about the cold. It is somewhere in the 20's here right now. It was 14 when I started the wifes truck this morning. Those Murrays being workers is the way it should be :fing32:.

I would certainly go out of my way on your account. No trouble, I needed to get them up for some time. I put pics on the Murray Pictures thread.

The newest is coming along nicely. It runs and cuts under its own power.
Need spring,I think, on clutch/brake pedal. Have to pull it up with my toe. Which in turn just about throws me off

We are waiting for you to move down here! Already have a house picked out.
You did want a full basement right?
RonT
Right about now I could go for garage with a wood stove. Seems like the South has Murray's falling out of the trees.
