What do you guys think of my Idea?

Several Months ago I began work on an Idea. This post is intended to bring all of you up to date.

I wanted to be able to use my new X728 in the dark. Although the headlights provided are great, they are not quite what I have in mind. The after market solution is not any better. I needed a way to mount some headlights that can be used in all weather conditions. That proved to be a bit of a challange as you will see.

The above image shows the front light bracket that I have designed. I put it here so that you can see what I am dealing with.

Here is an isometric of one of the details.

I hope that you can better understand what I am trying to do.

  1. First we need to find a way to mount the headlights above all of the front mounted attachments. Did I pick the right height?
  2. Then we need to make sure that the bracket will last through its design lifetime. Did I provide enough strength or is this design over kill?
  3. Last, We need to provide for a connection of the new headlights to the existing circuitry. The wiring is designed so tht wires are fed through the Pipes forming the bracket to a common point near the lower lefthand of the bracket, and then spliced into one line. The circuit terminates at the existing connection to the headlights thus making it possible to use the dash mounted switch.

I believe at this time I have satisfyed all three design elements. If I have missed anything, please mention it so that we get everything right the first time.

Thank you.

Looks like it should work. Unfortunately I don't have answers for your questions...
Looks Great to me! :trink39::trink39::trink39:
My concern would be.. If you have to move your bumper out of the way(fold it down) can you do that with a implement on your tractor (snow blower) and keep those light attachment points on also?

Absolutely! I have it designed that way.

Make one and see how it works... I bet there are people here that would buy them.
Where is it going to mount on the tractor? Looks like it was designed to mount where the front quick hitch mounts. :dunno:

Mike,

During the winter months it will be mounted on the Quick Hitch Attachment. In the summer time you can add a couple of shims (shown in detail "A") to mount to the chassie which should give it 12 months use.

Can you open the hood with it in place? That should be a design requirement as well as whether it causes mechanical conflicts with any other popular option.
Your drawings are off the charts, really nice:fing32:, but I have a hard time figuring out exactly how this will look or set on the tractor, I need a visual in my mind.

So I don't have a clue on wether it will work or not, buy I'm sure it will.

Can you draw it on the tractor.

I'm a bit like Rob here, we need to see the front of the tractor, can you draw it with the bracket near the point where it will attach?

I like the idea. I have looked at JD's light bar and thought it would be nice but I don't think you can run it with out the quick hitch on. So your's would be nice to use all year.

I'm a little confused. You want to make a light bracket to clear the front mounted attachments? That implies you're using a front Quick-Hitch, and Deere already sells a high mount front light bracket for the front Quick-Hitch. Seems like you're re-inventing the wheel.

Or am I missing something?:dunno:

What can you put on the front of an X7xx without a quick hitch that would need a high mount light bracket?

I will say with my plow on and if you are pushing snow some of the light from the headlights is being blocked. I CAN still see but I don't think it ever hurts to have more light.

I think the main thing with the one he is making is you could use it year round. With JD's I think you can only use it with the hitch on.

Looks good Jerry!:fing32:

I like that you allow for two mounting options. 1- on the quicktatch when using a plow/blower/broom and 2- on the tractor frame when the quicktatch is not in use.:fing32:

It looks wide enough so that the hood will open without hitting the bracket or lights.

I can't tell from the diagram exactly where it mounts on the tractor frame's front bracket. I assume it is out of the way of a mower deck's attachment.

I think my Johnny Bucket Sr. would need to use the same mounts you are using. Not a problem for those without a JB Sr. but something none the less.:dunno:

Keep up the good work!:trink39::thThumbsU

Sorry to sound 'thick' here, please fill me in. What attachemnt that does not use a Quick-tach front hitch that is big enough to block the headlights?

I'm curious, because I just bought an X700 and I'm wondering what I'm missing out on?

:thanku:

MowerDude,

The lights are mounted on a swivel, which sits at the very top of the attachment. The Idea was to make something that would allow for lights to be turned and pointed exactly where there is no light.

I plan on using it to harvest row crops. I supose there are not very many who do that.

Comeon guys, give me a break,I am having enough trouble without drawing the entire John Deere fleet!

:sorry1:

Mike,

Yes the hood can be opened with this mounted. That is why I changed the geometry of the pipe.

Ah ha! Now I understand your goal. Good luck!
