What do I win?

Yall arent gonna believe this...but I have a witness. Kingwood was there. Not much a witness though huh? (I kid, I kid!)

Me and kingwood were working at my buddies shop today when I was told there was gonna be a mass cleanup of the field.

Well, theres this big...thing out there. No clue what it was. I had seen it before but thought Id never have a chance so I paid no attention to it. We were talking about getting a couple little things from this and that and the subject of this...thing...came up. Asked the guy how much he wanted for it. After some thinking he said "Ill take $50 for it."

Now, this thing...being what it is, I didnt just shake his hand and casually walk to my truck, no. I dropped what I was doing and RAN to the truck to grab the cash before he changed his mind.

Lemme lay it down for yall.

Its got an 18hp Onan twin. weighs...Idk...ALOT (1/2-3/4 ton?) Rear steer. Pivot brakes and a hydraulic lift for the 72" (yes, I said SEVENTY TWO INCH) SHAFT DRIVE deck.

Oh and I was told it DOES RUN.

Heres a picture of one. Mine has two wheels in the back and is a little older, but yeah...Its a friggin cushman! FOR FIFTY BUCKS! :trink40::trink40::trink40:

If anyone has any kind of information on this beast...please let me know. Ill get serial numbers and stuff off of it tomorrow, just let me know where to look please. Also where can I get a manual?

If anyone knows what they cost brand new...that would be amazing.

So...most cutting width for least amount of cash? Do I win? lol.
Bragging rights over with for now...neighbors were already asking what it is and why is it here. -gulp- Good thing its going to a friends house to cut his field when I get it running right. (has a harley davidson coil on it right now)

Ill be interested to know what engine is on it, that can help date it.

Either way, AWESOME SCORE!!!
Its an onan 18hp I was told. I saw a tag on the deck. Ended in 74...so Im guessing 70s. I cant wait to get a day off to mess with it!
The first 2 numbers will be the last two digits of the year it was made.

So far, it could be a BG/MS, B48M, or P218g
Im really curious...I might go out and take a look now.

Mostly interested in a thread I found here on MTF where one fella foudn his drive gear totally chewed away. Said the manual said something about "DO NOT TOW" and I remember the guy saying it made all kinds of noise when they drug it out to the field...

Edit: Just went and hooked jumper cables to it. Its seized. Bummer.

Oh well. Its still a 50 dollar cushman. Maybe I can find an axle for it....we really need it down at my buddies house.

I had one, that tower behind the seat was the radiator for the 2 cylinder diesel engine.

No water pump, the water just thermo-siphoned.
wow...no water pump? Thats kinda sketch...
Neat machine for sure. I'll have to add it to my " oddball cutters " collection of pics. LOL
I will bring the camera to Jon318's place some time this week to get some good pictures of this beast for everyone. His has the wide rear axle. I was the first one to ride it. I rode it the 10 feet it took to get it off of the trailer.
That sure looks like a OMC opposed twin cyl engine. If it is a OMC, there were two versions. The 18hp had the spark plugs pointing the bottom of the vehicle, the 22hp version had the spark plugs pointing up.
I found some manuals on line for this machine today. scooter is correct there was two engines offered in this mower. The 18hp and the 22hp. Jon when you get home get in touch with me and I will email you the manuals.
Right now as we speak Jon and I are looking through the manual trying to find some info on this beast. We have our work cut out for us getting this thing in working order. Ether he or I will let every one know what we figure out.
Its the OMC with the 22hp.

From what Im reading its a 1992 so its safe from the weird drive axle issue.

Gonna borrow some diesel tomorrow and start soaking her when I get home. The plugs look brand new.
In case any one gets bored you can look through the manuals here to see what we are dealing with. This is also so Jon or I can find them when we need them.

No, not at all! No water pump to fail. It worked for the Model T and many farm tractors of the era.
That was a one in a lifetime deal! Hope you get the cylinders freed up!
What do you win???

I think you already won.

You can dump a ton of money into this to fix it and still come out ahead.. Figure out what it worth running proper and you will know what can put into it. Leaving yourself some profit too,,of course.

I made a deal awhile back that is right up there with this, but didn't want to hijack your thread. (So I'm not telling.)

They are out there if your at the right place at the right time.

Really...well dang. Learn something new everyday huh?

Flash...for $50 I could have taken it straight to the scrapper and made a killing. (it says use a jack with a minimum lifting capacity of 3000lbs) But, Im not that kinda guy. Itll get a chance. Or three. Or more.

It looks like it is in great shape. I agree,,,I think it is well worth figuring it all out and fixing it. It's COOL!!! The scrap yard is like giving up,,,and throwing money away.

Have you figured out what it is worth in running condition,,,and then in restored(great) condition??

I would have ran too! My pair of Toro Groundsmasters came cheap too! About the same era. $25 for the 60", $65 for the 48" at the same auction. I used the 60" for a couple of years, but it was a smoker (20hp Onans both). Swapped the engine from the 48" and cleaned it up and painted it. Its still on the road to recovery 4 years later. I work slow.
If you get it running, you will love a front deck mower. The most comfortable mower I have ever used, and that includes z turns now.
