...that would stop the blade if something soft (like your finger, they demonstrated using a hot dog) hit the blade (do they still sell these?). Do circular saws have anything sort of brake?
"Sawstop" is the hotdog demo. Newer circular saws have a brake, but older do not. Not gonna lie...used my thumb on the side of the blade many a time to slow the blade to a stop much quicker on an older circular saw. I am sure you know someone else that has done the same. Kickbacks and binds are an issue, but I think the most common danger I've witnessed is setting the saw back down with the gaurd not kicked back into place either from a worn return spring or debris holding it back. Seen someone forget they pried the gaurd back open with a carpenters pencil (rectangle ones) adjusting a cut that went to a fine point and set the saw down. Then there is also holding a board and not realizing where your fingers are underneath. And don't use your knee as a sawhorse. Sounds dumb, but people learn the hard way all the time.

I was talking to an old farm hand on my Uncles farm. He had been there for 30+ years. He happened to be winterizing all the equipment. He held up one hand and was missing the tips back to the first knuckle on the first three fingers. He said years ago he was winterizing the stuff and had just put new blades on a push mower, took the plug out, and sprayed it with misting oil. Knowing with no plug in it, it wouldn't start, he grabbed the deck and yanked the cord. When he pulled the cord the new blade spun and knocked his fingers off. Lots of accidents are not thinking accidents.

Nice weather so my wife wanted to work in our daughters yard. Took down two more Spruce trees. One had vines going all the way to the top. I put a choker around the big mass and pulled it tight with the X500. Then went behind the pile and cut it off at the ground. Pulled the whole pile out and had it laying across the yard. I couldn't believe it, we got one end in the chipper and it just kept crushing the pile up. Three or four times I had to reverse the feed wheel because the vines were wrapping arount it, stick a big solid limb in it and kept going. Took the whole pile.

Mikey you could take a finger off closing your car door before you lose one to a saw. ;)

Yeah, I watched a video outlining a bunch of that stuff, including holding the wood with your fingers under the cut path. Just reading about it makes me cringe.

Only because I use car doors every day!

My sister fractured her finger in a car door at around age 6. I think my Dad closed the door on it, distracted by something. Didn't lose the finger, thankfully, but scared all of us quite a bit.

I got some seat time in the 240 in winter mode to grade the driveway ... the weights and chains sure did help.

From DR Power? From the used DR Power leaf collector I bought, it had a B&S 900 series engine. The impeller is very well built (mostly 3/16" steel, very strong, I abused it w gravel and the impeller was undamaged). The impeller housing is another thing, the abuse ripped the edge of it apart. Fortunately, the way the housing bolts together made it easy to make and insert a liner from 11 or 12 gauge sheet metal, and it's been holding up fine since then (but hasn't been abused in the same way since then). I have killed two engines on it due to extremely dusty conditions (the B&S engine and a nice Honda engine).

Does it have to be from DR? Used Trac Vacs seem to be more common, you might be able to pick one up cheaply and make it work.

I have a Trac Vac with the "wrong" impeller housing (from a different model). It is connected to the tractor and bin with flexible hoses, and works just fine.

I’d definitely call DR with the model number. Even tho they got sold to Generac and not what they used to be, they have been helpful with parts for anything I’ve needed.
