Lots of people ask, what did that cost new? I thought I'd start the ball rolling with a post of original invoices of John Deere garden tractors. Maybe this might be a helpful sticky some day. Best Regards

2000 JD 445: What did it cost new? John Deere Tractor Invoices

Very interesting idea, and I have 35 years worth of invoices. But, I'm not as daring as you to leave my name, address, and phone number to share with all the folks who might read this thread. (No offense to any of the folks who are actually reading this thread). But, for a summary that I've shared before here are my invoice numbers:

Juniors - great idea for the thread. However you may want to remove you name, address, phone number and signature ASAP. While I would never think one of our fellow Forumer's would ever indulge in identity theft, others may not be so honest. Highly suggest you or a mod clear this item out.

I like how the trade in value of the JD 212 almost got you back as much as you paid for it 6 years later, goes to show you these machines hold their value.

Very cool thread you guys have going here. Jere39, how many hours did the 318 have when you traded it for the '96 445?
I can only shake my head and say wow, wow, wow. I saw a gorgeous x7?? at the dealership last week. Don't want to see the price tag.

I don't recall, and it is not listed on the receipt from my dealer. But, I was pretty consistently running about 100 hours/year in that time frame. So, it was probably something under 500 hours.

I had a bit of a situation with that tractor. The winters were cold in that era, and we had one of our biggest snows in this area during that time. Unbeknownst to me the battery froze in my garage and cracked the case. I started it one morning and plowed snow. As the battery acid/water melted it was blowing back through the ventilation holes in the pedestal. First symptom was when the jeans I was wearing came out of the washing machine with a completely shredded crotch. (I accused my wife of some over zealous bleaching). Next symptom, tractor would not start next time I needed it. As I opened up access to the battery I saw the situation, but by then it had been a couple days. I mixed up some baking soda and water and did a thorough wash out of the entire area, but the corrosion had already started. Till Spring it was obvious I had a mess in the pedestal, the wiring, the seat, anything that got the acid rain.

This wasn't a tractor issue, it was a battery issue, and you might suggest it was an owner issue for not considering the possibility of a frozen battery. But I didn't. And, I was not comfortable with the long term promise for that tractor.

Loved the 318, but didn't want to deal with advancing corrosion, so, I traded it with a full disclosure.

I bought it used last year, the seller gave it to me with all the paperwork he had on the tractor. The seller lives in Williamstown, NJ now. I believe he told me he was originally from New York.
He now lives where he has a postage size yard and his wife told him to get it out of the garage it takes up to much space. :)
