Just picked up what I believe to to be MTD 990 wondering if anyone can help. From what is left of the tag it says 145-999A can't make out the serial number, engine ID is 326431-0139-01 74092. Trying to figure out exactly what I have. Sorry pics are not very good, they were taken before I bought it. Once I ID it I'm going to have lots of questions. Thanks

You have, an unfortunately somewhat butchered 990.

Get that exhaust off there before you try to start it.
990's have 4 lug 15" rear wheels, 3 lug fronts. Looks like you got one.

Actually the later models had no front hubs - just bushings in the wheels.
I'm new to this, what is wrong with the muffler????????

It's a fire hazard waiting to happen that close to the carb. How did the PO expect to adjust the carb with a hot exhaust pipe wrapped around it?

Why on earth did he cut up the grill?

BTW, you're reading 145-990 on that tag.

I don't think the grill is cut. Might be hard to access the idle screw but the main jet is still plenty accessible.

I see he's got the aux hydraulics wrapped around up to the front. Also converted to solid state ignition.

Discovered the muffler was actually loose and that it turned up vertical. Can anyone give me an idea with the model number what year it is. Thanks
It is a 1975. It looks like it has the early scissor deck lift. I believe 1975 was the last year for this.
i was actually looking to buy this tractor from halifax right? im too slow seen it on kijiji :)
I really appreciate the response and the information Thanks to everyone, does anyone know where I can get a replacement dash panel for this tractor. The original part number I beleive was "10850" according to the parts manual. I did find the parts manual for the motor, is there a spot where I can find an actual repair manual for the 1974 16 hp briggs & stratton. Thanks Again

I wish it was simple to get a replacement dash. I am also looking for parts and i know flej is looking for a steering spindle. Parts tractors are needed. I will tell you in my opinion. Make it work. Clean it up and get the small stuff worked out and slowly fix the big problem. You will love your tractor. It is a tank. And honestly if i lived closer i would help you work on it. I had loads of fun rigging mine up.

I am making my 990 into a crawler, so I am stripping out many parts from it, the dash is going, the upgraded axle may be spoken for by flejl. I am taking out the deck hangers, all the brake components, the steering column and gears and such are all going. PM me if you all want, I can take pictures of what you want or tell you if I need it and am not getting rid of it.

Sorry most are black and white, must have had a setting off, anyway the tractor is a MTD so you know the color scheme.

I spoke to soon. Lol. Do you happen to have a seat spring and a right foot rest i will pay for it and shipping.
I need to see where the foot rests mount in relation to the tracks if they are in the way they will have to go, as for the seat spring I may have to keep that until this project is done. Then again if the dozer doesn't work, you all will have lots of parts.:praying: PS should know about the foot rests tomorrow.

I hope it works. I seen a john deere crawler and that looked sweet. I like it when smart people like you make something better or aleast cool to look at.
