What "cat" are these......?

I come from the land of GT's, have never even driven a real tractor.

I am looking at a 9n w/FEL today because I have many projects around here that would greatly benefit from the versatility of a full size tractor.

That said, my neighbor is a 100 acre working farm that runs three tractors- two are the ford 4wd sub compacts and a kubota L.

He has too many implements to list, pretty much anything he has I am welcome to; splitter , auger, blades, tiller, plows, etc.....

I am clueless (so far) because this idea of a full size tractor is new- really didn't think I could find a working 9n FEL within my budget. I am at the stage in my life where I would rather use the proper tool instead of brawn......

So question is, what category 3pt is on 9n's ? I read the limitations of what can be run with these machines so I know not every implement will work.

Also, do 9n's come plumbed with hydro out back- if not, easy or hard to do?

Figure I'd ask some elementary questions before I head over to check out this machine....

Took the day off so wish me luck....!

The Ford 9N will not handle a tiller due to ground speed..

Yes, they are plumbed for the 3pt implements that your neighbor has.

You would not be happy with the FEL on a Ford N..:crybaby:

I've read lack of power steering makes for an unhappy 9n FEL- any other issues that stand out?

My grounds are made up of woodlands that need clearing -(logs moved)- and land that will covered in gravel and mulch. If I don't overload the FEL would it be less of a headache?

scott,

just remember you can't compare the 9n to a brand new 4wd compact with power steering, it just wont be the same, it will get the job done but take longer, logs may have to have smaller longs etc etc. Heck i just have a rear scoop on my tractor it does most of the jobs just won't push trees over. or dig out stumps
.......I have been doing all the work so far with a wheel barrow, shovels and my little Cub 105....... I can't compare a 9nFEL to anything but that!!!

I can only expect to save some back muscles , and, hopefully, save some time

No.
They do NOT come equipped with remote hydraulics... and it is impossible to do so... without MAJOR modification of the tractor (i.e. either disabling the 3-point lift... or installing an external hydraulic pump)

Oh?

So I could not use a splitter...:(

That's a bummer because the splitter usage is a major reason why I wanted this tractor....crap

I am not encouraging anyone to use one of these, it looks wicked dangerous to me but it is out there.
well if it has a pump on the front he could just have one of the lines quick disconnect run it to the log splitter then use like say the dump cylinders hydraulics to run the log splitter when done splitting logs quick disconnect back and away u go

Good point, somethings running the FEL. shouldn't be too hard to add another port for log splitter operation.
