Yesterday, I went to the local grocery store across the street from the one I usually go to. I got a scooter (YAY!) and then I got the few items I needed and went to the check out. It was 4:30 in the afternoon and there was not a single cashier in sight, only self checkout. I have very limited experience with self checkout, but I have used it in the past. So I scanned al my items and went to pay with cash, which I have done before, but the "overseer" came over and explained that I could NOT use cash, it was credit or debit only. And she added that was the policy through out the store. I dug out my debit card and paid, but I won't be back. I also noticed the sign that the customer service desk had a sign saying it was open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM so no customer service after 6 o'clock. About a dozen years ago, I was a part time employee of that chain of stores (different location) and I didn't understand management decisions then, and I sure don't understand the current decisions that put the customer last. Now I understand why the Shoprite across the street always has twice as many cars or more in the parking lot. They bend over backwards to please the customers with special sales, events, community programs.

Today I made a 12 mile trip south to get a cancer CT screening scan. And I wanted to also get my blood tests done, but I forgot that they were fasting tests and I had eaten breakfast. After the scan, I picked up my RX at the pharmacy and asked about home Covid tests. I can get 4 for free, but I have to go back tomorrow to pick them up. On the way home, I stopped at the local dollar store to buy some Chunky brand chocolate bars, but they didn't have any. I had to settle for two 3 Musketeers bars, one for me and one for my Mrs. Tomorrow I'll get my blood tests done also and then get 2 Wendy's breakfast sandwiches AFTER as my reward.

I also have a 5-inch Chinese vise, I have it mounted to a trailer hitch plate, since I still have no real workbench. (The vises pictured in my posts above are still in storage here).

Still have the original box, it's a Cummins 3149. Box says it weighs 18 kg (40 lbs) without the mount (which I bought years later at HF).

Bought the vise at a traveling tool show shortly after moving into this house around 17 years ago.

It has regular and pipe jaws. The paint is pretty thin, but otherwise it does the job.

Also, I don't know if it's me or the vise, but it spins horribly when the jaws are not clamped onto the object.

Today hit 65*F here in the DC area. Glorious sunny mid-winter weather for a moto ride. Grabbed “linner” at Whites Ferry, about 75 miles round-trip. It felt good. 👍👍

That looks like a nice day! No such luck here. Highest temp we have seen since late November is 40. We’ve hit 38-39 the last few days but back to single digits the rest of this week and then some snow next week.

I need to mount one that way. But will not be leaving it in the hitch when not in use. In fact there is one sitting on the floor in the tool room waiting to be mounted.

Need to find a day that works and just go.
Think I am going to try dragging the wife with me. If she finds something she likes great. If not it's only $10 and I tried. I decided on Planet Fitness.

I felt like that at first--but--you have to make to exercise--in the long run, better for you. My physical therapist was telling me--'Just tthink of it as a P/T job--you are investing in your future.' He is a smart guy, also.
Just makes me feel better-

I don't leave mine attached to the truck, if that's what you mean. If you look carefully at the pic with the box, you can see that's where the vise is currently being stored...

Well, in case we are still reviewing each other's vises, here are two more, both of which have been fodder in my trade-up plan:

A Craftsman and a Columbian, both red:

And, Columbian that had been cleaned and repainted alongside a nice red Wilton:

So... remember when I said the ghia was sold to somebody? They never showed up to pay for it or even haul it away. Called them multiple times, each time they gave a different excuse, then just stopped responding all together.

So..in talking with dad, we both decided if he can get the "bolens" hauled away for scrap (I'm never going to get it fixed and with it sitting for a year it's not worth putting more money into it) he'll not only let me take over working on it, but he'll also help as he's able to. Means I'll be putting the small engine stuff off to the side for a bit, might try to squeeze it in as I can, but if it helps me get more familiar with working on cars and whatnot, then it'll be a big plus.

This was my day off and I work Fri thru Monday. Pulled out the vises for a family photo and a vid of the Wilton quick adjust. The big boy would weigh 50lbs if it had the swivel base on it. The other vises weighed 10-16lbs.

I didn't cut brush today but hauled some of what I cut Sunday. I was dragging some sumac up and turned and a deer was walking towards me, tractor idling behind me lol. 2 bucks had 1 horn each. Must be shedding.

Yesterday I went a semi-local butcher shop and got a REAL deal. Our dog Maggie has a sensitive gut and does best on a protein rich but bland diet. So I make her soup to put over her grain-free dry food. I have been using up beef liver and heart that we have accumulated in the freezer from past 1/4 and 1/2 beef purchases. I have used it all up so it was time to buy some. I got 15# of liver and 11# of heart for $1/pound. It is unprocessed, just bulk - the stuff they do process and package in 1# packages is only $1.99/pound so still a deal.

Her soup is 6 quarts of water, 4-5 pounds of organ meat and 2 pounds of sliced carrots. Boiled long and slow for a rich broth. She loves it and does well on it.

Can't imagine any dog I've owned this being willing to eat a carrot!

And, where are you finding chicken so cheap these days???

A few years ago we were slicing up cucumbers to make pickles. We had a big coffee can on the floor to drop in the cut offs to then take out to the compost pile. None made it out. We noticed our Shepard sneaking the pieces out of the can.

My dog loves baby carrots from the crock pot after cooking a roast.
Well, beef-soaked carrots might be an exception, LOL...

I've owned several dogs, all different breeds / mutts. They've all despised vegetables of every type.

The funniest one was my first dog (I was a kid), a Golden / Yellow Lab mix. You could give her a hamburger (from McDonald's, etc.), she'd quickly devour the whole thing, but the pickle(s) would always be left behind, without even a tooth-mark.

Well, that "skill" was funny until we had to give her pills. No matter what we wrapped them in (cheese, meat, peanut butter), the pill would get shot out, everything else got eaten...
