as the title says, I have a scratch or two and it appeared that it was painted yellow. To me that means it was used by a town/state or municipality. Does anyone know for cretin if JD made a yellow 420? It also might explain why so much is broken, literally. I really like this tractor, every little thing I do makes it better. I'm certin it has not had an easy life but It is being well taken care of now. :fing32:

Is the yellow some sort of undercoating or primer before the JD green went on?
I don't know, I suppose it could be.. It looks like it might be the same yellow as they use on there larger equipment. I'm really not sure thought someone here might have some insight.
My 430 had yellow primer where the paint was worn by the foot rest. I am pretty sure its a primer because I have seen it on a few other machines.
Yeah, it's yellow primer.
ok thanks for the insight! Now I know too:fing32:
I have seen a yellow Deere 400 at a rest area. I have never seen yellow primer myself.
I've actually never seen any primer of any kind under factory Deere paint.
The John Deere's are primed with yellow and painted green to achieve the true "John Deere Green" color. As it was explained to me by a long time farmer with multiple JDs

Well I guess it's a darn good thing that my 210 was primed with yellow!

Well, I've stripped a lot of original paint JD garden tractors and hit nothing but green all the way to the metal. On all of them.
In my John Deere brochure, it shows that tractors had black undercoat primer, a yellow primer, and then the green.
D332,,Like ATB said I never have seen anything but green down to the actual fiberglass, maybe there is a serial number break somewhere.Something on the 332,the hood has white on the inside and I don't see signs of re paint on the hood?

I am wondering it is not something related to powder coating serial number breaks. I know there is not any yellow primer under the green on my 318 and it has never been painted. There also was not any on the 430 (1991 model) so I am not really sure. :dunno::dunno:
