Greetings--

I've got a 1960's-1970's Tru-Test 33 worm drive front-tine tiller. Engine runs great but it has started throwing (eating) belts. Upon further inspection, the entire shaft assembly moves in/out about 1/2" which is throwing the belt off the rear main pulley. Took the left tine shaft off and the gears look fine. Is there a shim missing, worn bushing or bearing? Do not know too much about them. I can post some photos if that helps.

Thanks.

Pictures always help.
You need to find out what keeps the shaft from moving in and out, and why it's not doing its job. Maybe just a snap ring, or maybe a bearing is shot.
Do you have a parts diagram?
