Hey guys, I'm doing a in the tractor rebuild. I have all valves out. Everything looks pretty good, but! Some of the valve seals were missing the rubber o-rings when I took them out. Some were intake, some were exhaust, Is this a common problem. Another issue I have is some of the seals are not wanting to go back in due to the carbon build up inside the black. Is there a hone or what can I do to clean them up. Any help would be great. I really don't want to remove the block if I don't have to. It's been years sense I've done this, it's amazing what a guy can forget.:banghead3

I'm assuming you are talking about a flat head due to the comment about not wanting to remove the block. Only the intake valves need seals. Positive pressure on exhaust will not let a lot of oil into the port. Actually you want some oil there to wash the stem and keep it from sticking.

Not aware of a hone to clean the valve guide pockets - I've always soaked in ATF used a scraper that is cut down for just this purpose.

Because some of use are like bulls in a china shop and break/lose a couple or some just put them on all the valves even though the exhaust do not require them.
