Hi again!

OK, here is an update since last year! If you recall I bought a JD 185 Hydro on Ebay, cleaned it up swell, got it started and running and then stored away inside, for the last year.

Before I even thought about starting her up this week I….

Changed oil, filter, spark plug, brand new fully charged up battery, new JD ignition upgrade kit, new starter key ignition assembly, new key, new solenoid, cleaned and checked starter motor, triple checked 2 x safety cut out switches (temporarily over ridden) checked main fuses....…but NO start, NO click, all dead, any suggestions please guys?

Thanks!

Like K91 said, uninstall the relay and put everything back the way it was and see if it starts?

Check the connections on all the safeties, Neutral, PTO, Seat. If you are not getting even a click, something is more than likely breaking the circuit from the key switch to the solenoid tab.

First things first. You need to say no crank. That's when you have a dead starter. The motor isn't turning over or cranking.

No start is when it will crank over but will not run on it's own (start). They are two different things and the nomenclature makes a difference to someone trying to help.

Did you solve it by now and if so what did you end up finding ??

I'd take a jumper from the battery (+12) to the solenoid small wire just to see if the starter will crank. If it does then you know it's somewhere between the battery and that solenoid, bad key switch (I know it's new but ..), connector fell off the key switch or is loose, a safety went bad and it's one you missed jumping .......

Great job on cleaning it up. I agree it's almost too clean to start up as you will get it dirty !!

I have a beater that needs everything, especially paint. Thank heavens I had a spare JD green body/fender to replace the matching pink one that came on it. It's a former pulling tractor.

Did you repaint the frame? ,paint will insulate the metal, and cause a no start condition ,because of poor ground connection. Building a street rod I had to scratch paint off, where the ground connections bolted to the frame.

That is an excellent catch !!!! I've been there with a car.

Never even thought about that but I have to say I have cleaned up the grounds on my riders when I see them rusty.

Never thought about someone painting it and insulating the connections.
That should almost be a reminder sticky in the restoration or body and paint section.
