chris 1614,

Read this post, it may help. Let me know since we may have similar tractors. http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=87776

It's a MTD 760, 860 or a 960 depending on the horse power of the engine. I do believe they are all the same except for horse power. 10, 12 and 14 hp.
thank you e-rancher mine looks to be the same tractor except mine says MTD in the middle instead of white. i do not know the size of the motor as of yet. i do appreciate all the help. this was sitting on a farmers field he seems to thank for 20 years or so. i gave him a 20 dollar bill for it. i kinda was wondering the year and if it might be worth restoring? any thoughts or ideas would be helpful. as a last thought the motor does turn over with no hesisitation.
Whether it is worth restoring is up to you. It's certainly worth not trashing.

The biggest curse of these mowers is the plastic dash. As I'm sure you've already noticed everything else on them is very heavy duty compared to what you'd find today.
i already noticed the dash part its all broke but i could fabricate a tin one. im not used to these MTD's i do know its heavy duty it was fun unloading from my pickup
Chris
If you don't want to mess with it, let me know. Check your emails.
chris 1614,

I was following coolcorsair's post but his last update was at the end of June. I think his model is the same as ours.

Have you found out what the extra peddle on your tractor is for?
i'm
pretty sure i just found my winter project in that there tractor. I stopped over at a guys house today and found a hood, seat pan and mower deck for it. so i will definitely keep you posted and more pictures
Glenn M,

I've been side tracked by vacation, a blown head gasket on my one ton and a 212. I'm trying to work the 212 into service as a back up for the other two212s we use for the yard but every "fix" finds another flaw. I went through the same thing on the other two when I put them into service. It's just chasing away all the little gremlins. I may have a chance to look at it next week. I'm glad you reminded me and thanks for the interest.

chris 1614,

Good find on the hood, seat, and deck. Keep use posted on your progress and let me know what you find out. I don't know much about my White.

Chris -

Did you find any model and or serial numbers? This looks like an early to mid-70s 990, or could be a 1400 - depends on the engine size. Should be a B&S model number stamped into the top strap of the engine. It's been through some rough times from the looks of your pictures. This will make a good winter project - a loooong winter project.

Good luck with it,
Rich
It's not a 990, 990's are hydrostatic and have 15" rear tires.
Glenn -

You're right there - not a 990. Hard to tell from the photos, but looking a second time, I can see the differences. A little more info would help identify it. Motor size, rear tire size, geared, etc.

Rich
some of you amaze me,if you would just read the posts and look at the pictures you would see that you can tell what it is but im pretty sure you dont read previous posts before posting.btw as i have stated several times the 990 and the one size smaller gear drive tractor both came badged as fourteen hundred series.
brng forward
i was showing the other guy you were talking too. ioffered it to him for 50 dollars minus motor.not shown is the hood, seat pan and mower deck for it
I think it means bring forward, or as we say bump
