We're heading to Tybee Island in a couple of weeks, I've never been there before. I'm trying to decide if I should bring my boat, or if it would just be a pain in the neck. I have no idea what the waters are like around there. I've got a 15' Starcraft Tri Hull with a 70 hp on it. Does anybody have any experience with a small boat on Tybee?

I've also got the inflatable with the 3.3, I'm not sure if that would be more appropriate. If anybody has brought a boat there or wished they had after being there let me know, thanks.

It worked out great! We put in at Lazaretto Creek three different times. We rode up the river to by Fort Pulaski then on to Old Fort Jackson, then Sunday morning we went out around in the open water to the south end of Little Tybee, then back to the ramp through the creeks. Little Tybee was great, we had it to ourselves. There were lots of crabs, big and small, a ray, and a dolphin surfaced a few times close by. The shells were beautiful. I'd definitely bring the boat again.

The tri-hull was fine. When we were out in the ocean, only about a half mile out, the waves were big, but smooth rollers, so we were going up hill then down hill etc, which made my wife petrified, but the ride was actually very smooth. The creeks were so incredibly smooth that at 33 MPH you could hardly tell the boat was moving, it was the smoothest I ever felt it. If we brought the boat again and ended up with windy conditions, we could stick to the creeks and still have plenty of room to play for a few hours, and we could still get to Little Tybee through the creeks.

If anybody is going, we went to the southern most point of land on Little Tybee and anchored about 50' from shore just around inside where the waves were not breaking.

So we are ready for our next adventure. I just booked a cottage down on Key Largo that comes with the use of a 22' Catalina. After looking at it I'm pretty sure I'm going to bring the Starcraft down too, as the locals tell me I'll want it to get out to the snorkeling sites on the Atlantic side. The place is rustic and campy, so it sounds perfect.

Does anybody have any suggestions for eating/drinking/boating/fishing etc in that area? We're going in April.

A few years ago , we spent a long week down @ The Keys, and one of the best experiences was hiring a young local guide, and doing 'flats fishing' all day with my buddy, around the bridges/islands along the keys--the guide knew exactly where the fish were /what kind, and added in a lot of local history about the pirates, and Spanish aqcustion...Money well spent..:fing32:

Ditto

My family spent a week in Key West every July for close to 10 years. Yes, up in Key Largo the Atlantic side is the side you want to be on. If you can swing it take a day trip down to Key West (~2 hours each way). Ride the Conch Train just to say you have ridden it, visit the Southern Most Point :fing32: You are that far... why not.
