this is the new thread i am making its going to contain tutorials on almost everything out there just about first is the common question during the spring on those pushmowers that are left in the garage thru the winter season

1. Hard to start

first check to make sure that the plug is firing if that checks out then we have a carb issue on Briggs engines the 3.75 and 4 hp are prone to being a clogged up pick up tube on the carb inthe tank

the way to clean this is to remove the tank from the engine
then take a phillips screwdriver medium size take and remove the screws in the carb from the tank gently remove the carb and notice down inside the chamber in the tank where you might see some dirt and grime take and cover the opening on the tank from the top of the tank

take and wear safety goggles and clean out the chamber in the tank with either a air compressor or carb cleaner and paper towel or shop towel

after removing the sludge replace the gasket and diaphragm in the carb making sure all the entry ways are clear of dirt

then place back on the tank finger tighten the screws not to get too tight just finger tight
place tank back on the engine reconnect the linkages and springs go to start the engine

engine should fire up

if not we have other issues

hope this helps some of you figure out this very common problem with murray pushmowers and yard machine push mowers with the briggs 4 hp engines

We do have a complete tune up kit available for these type engine models consists of Air Filter Spark plug Carb gasket diaphragm kit and 1 qt of 4 cycle oil with shipping all for $ 11.42 all you need to do is let me know thanks

Craftsman Riders Serial #s to Date of manufacture

Understanding AYP Craftsman Serial #s to Year Date

for example 121200A919456 is your serial # on the Craftsman

and you have a hard time figuring the year of the tractor you can tell its a AYP by the 917 model number

but in order to tell the year date the first 6 digits is the only thing you need to know as a consumer

the last two digits of them 6 is your year the other first numbers is the month and day in the example above your date code would be December 12 2000 would be the date your unit was made on the other remaining Letter and numbers are just for internal purposes only from the manufacture

Hope this helps you all in figuring your year on these 917 model numbers Sears craftsman riders

thanks
