This just doesn't seem quite right to me:banghead3 :banghead3 :banghead3 I am considering doing the K66 transaxle upgrade to my Jd La145.......... I found them forsale....... brand new on Ebay for $ 299.00 or as a kit for $899.00 which includes everything that you need including rims..... I contacted Tuff Torq directly and this is the quote they sent me.............................

Hello,
The K66's will cost around $1,300 ($150.00 freight) and the K72'Ss will
cost around $1,600 ($175.00 freight:crybaby: :crybaby: Why can it be that you can find there transaxle on ebay for $300 vs them trying to sell it for more than 5 times what it can be found for??????????????? Just wanted to see what everyone thought............ because you could really buy a new lawnmower instead of replacing a $ 1500 transaxle..... IF you buy your tractor for $2700 I can't believe John Deere sells their engine and entire frame for $ 1200.............. Thinking this is just another company trying to screw the small guy over:banghead3

I agree.....something just is'nt right......I love my 135, but in the back of my mind I worry about the "stupid" transaxle issue.

they don't sell the engine and frame for 1200, they charge markup on parts, just like your tractor is a package deal.

a $15,000 dollar honda civic is worth $300,000 to a chop shop - think about that.

if you can get the transaxle somewhere else cheeper, JD probably fires some out to a wholesaler sometimes, they may have some minor imperfections, but not necessarily useless so keep that in mind.

:ditto:
Parts are marked up more than the "package deal". Buy a new package deal, keep the hydro, and part out the rest.

The OEM also will not undersell the dealers they supply so always expect them to have the highest price. I don't understand why you think they would undersell on a one-off sale.

I'm not on the hunt just yet!!!!!! but am worried from what I've read that I may only get a couple of years out of this transaxle and all I do is mow grass with it now.........................If it craps out on me I will deffinetly up grade to either the k66 or the k72 for only a few bills more and never worry again.

Do it right the first time............ No F$#@in around !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How long have you had it?????????? I find that mine makes a whine whenever I first engage a direction of movement.. forward or reverse....... and then the sound goes away......... I have no loss of power since I only have 12 hrs on it total and I do plan on changing the oil in it..... I have a pump to suck out the old oil............ I do haul a cart sometimes too... I just don't want it to just burn up on me in the future........ If it does from the use I am putting it thru ...... Cutting grass ... I will never buy another Lawn tractor again and will upgrade to a Compact Utility for sure.

since summer of 2004. it has over 400 hours on it, and i changed the oil in it between 250 and 300 hours. i used an electric sleeve hitch on it for an entire summer and pulled a tine cultivator and a disc many times that summer. the trick is to let it rest every few minutes, but leave the engine WOT so that the fan can cool teh hydro. and make sure to keep the hydro cleaned off, grass build up will allow it to hold more heat and that is bad.
