Hi,

I recently acquired an Echo GT-2000 type 1E gas trimmer. The last person to have it left fuel in it and it hasn't been run for years. I have cleaned the carburetor once, and replaced all the diaphragms and seals. I also replaced the fuel filter and fuel lines. Here is the probrem: I start it up and it fires right up with the throttle wide open, however, it won't idle at all. As soon as I let go of the throttle it shuts off. It will run for as long as I keep the throttle wide open, but as soon as I let go it shuts down. This happens when the engine is cold and hot and I have fresh TruFuel 50:1 fuel in the tank (which is the ratio called for in the manual). My first theory is that the low speed circuit may still be clogged since whoever used the trimmer last likely shut it down while it was idling. My second theory is the grommet on the fuel tank may not be making a proper seal. The grommet is old and the rubber is cracked at the top but it appears to make a good seal with the tank. It should be noted that when I prime the carburetor it seems to keep a lot of air in the bulb. If anyone has any other suggestions that I might have overlooked I would be happy to go and try them to see if they fix the problem. I am going to try and clean the carburetor again and I will post back once I do.

Thanks for the help,

Jordan

As stated by calfal, the carburetor is done. Replace it. They are extremely cheap on ebay, to the point that's it's barely worth the time to diagnose them. That carburetor will NEVER be made to operate properly again.
