Trying to get this 140 running. When I picked it up it was sitting outside for several years. The motor turns over by hand and owner said it ran when parked. He did say that the wiring is a bit hacked up and that (if I can remember correct) something about a wire spliced (purple wire in picture) to the clutch knob..... so this is what i have done to it so far

- rebuilt carb, cleaned gas tank and put in a new fuel line
- new points & condenser

Hooked it up to my booster box and got nothing no noise no clicks... nothing
I know the starter is good as I had it on another 140....

What should I check next.... maybe its the wiring as mentioned earlier.. i don't have any real knowledge of how it should be correctly wired.

Thanks

Purple wire is to the neutral safety switch, if I read the pic properly. All purple wires are for the safety switch circuits.

They had a lot of Ignition switch Problems.. Take the jumper . Wire/cable #1 direct to the starter +; If it turns #2 Try the Soleniod If it turns Then you may have A switch... That tractor Had one safety switch The purple wire can be grounded For testing Purposes. It was a poorly designed one On the shifter;. Put a small micro in Place of the old one . You will be happier and can pick one up at Radio shack For a Couple Bucks.. Have a nice day. Life is good..
