Who else is using their tractors for hunting? I use mine to mulch leaves on the trails so when I am walking through the woods I don't make a crunch crunch sound and I don't spook a buck. I also hook up the wagon and I fire up the tractor after the shot to go and get my deer. Anybody else doing this? Planting food plots?

Thats how my neighbor does it. I take my deer to him. Everybody does. He used to process meat. He does probably 30 a year. He's got a Kubota.

I haul the deer out of the woods lots of times for guys hunting here on my farm with a GT and trailer. Also drive thru the mountain on old logging roads and if I spot a deer leave the GT running and circle around to get a good shot while they keep an eye on the GT.Also works for coyotes.

Team Green hunters here know the difference between garden tractors and deer if they didn't I wouldn't be letting them hunt.Never had a hunter shoot anything they weren't supposed to many hunting 'accidents' aren't accidents but intentional shootings with using hunting as a cover.

I think he meant watch out you don't get run over by some kid blasting around in his truck on the old logging roads, but it sounds like you are traveling roads on your own property, so I doubt you get many unwanted visitors.

Yeah, it would take a special kind of moron to mistake a guy on a gt for a deer(whitetail that is). If he was a cub fan and you were on a green machine(deere), I might wear some kevlar though. :sidelaugh

Only things I've successfully hunted with the tractor are voles and the occasional toad. Yuck. I used to watch out very carefully for bunny dens, but the dogs now chase away any wildlife that might start homes.

It's been a long time since I've hunted, but I believe that is illegal in PA.??

You are telling me that in Pennsylvania, after I shoot a deer, I cant get my tractor and drag that deer out of the woods? Are you serious?

I'm not as familiar with the current hunting regs as I once was but that definitely was the case at one point. You could only use motorized assistance if you were handicapped.

I poked around on the PA game commission website this morning and found this in the game code. Sounds like it hasn't changed.

"Sec. 2308. Unlawful devices and methods.
(a) General rule.--Except as otherwise provided in this title, it is unlawful for any person to hunt or aid, abet, assist or conspire to hunt any game or wildlife through the use of:
(1) ...
...(7) A vehicle or conveyance of any kind or its attachment propelled by other than manpower. Nothing in this subsection shall pertain to any motorboat or sailboat if the motor has been completely shut off or sail furled, and the progress thereof has ceased.

This is from the ATV policy:
"The operation of ATVs on State Game Lands and other properties open to public hunting remains a violation of the law and continues to be aggressively
enforced by our wildlife conservation officers and their deputy WCOs. We view this as no different than the illegal use of automobiles, trucks and SUVs on these properties."

ATVs or for that matter any vehicle has never been allowed on public land for any reason/purpose from my understanding, I dont think they even allow horses. However I nor anyone I know who hunts on private land interpret the ATV rules for public land in the same manner for private land,, there are a few lines in the book that gives guidelines for huting with ATV/vehicles, I remember it to be something on the order of being 20 ft away from the vehicle while taking game or something similar, and those regs from my reccolection only pertain in using ATVs/vehicles to "take" game or using the ATV/vehicles in the process to obtain or hunt,, after the game is taken I see nothing that prohibits one from dragging a deer or say a bear on private land with an ATV/vehicle.

Exactly. Once the game is "taken" the hunt is over and the processing begins.

That only applies if you are hunting on state game land. You can do whatever you want on private land to drag out the deer after you shoot it. You can't hunt from a motorized vehicle even on private land in PA though, except with a handicapped hunting permit.
