:bannana: Finaly was able to drive my truck, we got tabs for it today. It rides like a caddy( Leaf springs and solid axle, take that coils and IFS) It also handles amazing, you can turn the wheel with your thumb if your felt like it. It stoped great, i never could measure them but they look like mabey 13" or 14" disks and drums( fill up 16" rims).

You dont feel like your accelerating or going as fast as you are, it feels like your bearly moveing at 60.

Just wanted to talk about my success.

1985 Dodge W250, 360 V8, TF-727 auto, 4x4, D44 and D60 axles with 3.55 gears.. Lt 235 85/16 tires on now repainted "chrome" rims. I have instaled custom wood shifter knobs( hand made by me), 55W drvieing lights, CB, a stereo/
I have also painted it gloss black becuase the orriginal paint detereorated very badly.
I have also fabbed up brackets for my in bed tool box. I'm now makeing a tire carryer that bolts to the bed, becuase durning shipment to the dealer befor my dad bough it, someone stole the spare tire and under bed mount.
.
112K miles. It's still running orriginal breaks( they still have alot of life left in them), u-joints and all seals. it has been super reliable it;s whole life.

It's been a project truck of sorts. i got it running spring of 2007, it fired up on 4 year old gas that was in the tank. Sofar i have done alot of tune up work, i havent touched the cap, rotor, and wires becaus they were brand new when it was put away. I cant adjust the carb becuase it has the orriginal untouched, by anyone becuase you cant rebuild it or adjust it. Stupid goverment regs.

as it sat after my grandpa died 4 years ago( it was traded to him for his IH, camper and our fj-40.

Before painting.

and after painting.

and the engine.

i'm going to add a sunpro super tach in a few weeks

Very cool!! Ya.. I like the ride of the old style solid axle trucks. Much more control then the IFS setups IMHO. Normaly the only handling bugabo those trucks have is the stearing shaft. they get sloppy, and you get a lot of movement in the steering wheel before it turns.

Nice truck!....dont see many older Dodge's here any more, rust ate them up quickly around here..

Ingersoll,on many GM and Dodge trucks like this one,a 90's Jeep Cherokee steering shaft with two u-joints is a bolt in swap,it eliminates the crappy "rag joint" hunk of tire setup they used OEM--..same splines on the steering colum and box, some need the plastic pins sheared and the shaft collapsed slighty to get them to fit..but its an easy way out of the poor stock setup..(might need one for my '82 GMC,its getting rustier every time I look at it..:( )

I almost got killed when one failed on my '77 GMC ,the straps crimped onto the rubber disc rotted away from road salt, went to take a corner, and the steering wheel just kept spinning like a fan,not even connected to the steering box!.. I was lucky I was only going 25 mph or so and was able to stop before I wiped out a fence and ended up in a deep ditch!..

That's what I thought. We don't get to see many of those here in the flatlands. I would love to see what you've done with that.

At the moment it's just sitting. the engine is locked up bad. i've been reading a tractor restoration manual to get some ideas on what to put in the cyl;s to free them up.

It hasnt ran sence mabey 2000 or 2001. the engine has never been rebuild( it has 99K miles) and my dad said it burned oil really bad when he used it at my grandparents nersery.

what i hope to do someday is a $$$$$$complete rebuild$$$$$. but thats going to have to wait untill i have some money( could be a while). Im most likly going to have to buy a new engine and swap it in. it's cheaper than buying all the parts and haveing the block machined. just a reman head for it is $600.

Put some of this in the cylinders and let sit for a few days then try turning over it worked for me but i had to use a breaker bar on the crank to help it free up

you can use grease to force the pistons loose.

I think you will get the '40 engine unstuck with the MMO and a big socket on the crankshaft nut. Let it soak for a few days; has worked for me several times.

Dont think you want to try the grease method. theory: find cylinder where piston is on down side of a combustion stroke (but near the top) so that both valves are close. Make an adapter to screw into sparkplug hole of that cyl that now has a grease fitting. Put a little MMO and start pumping grease into cylinder; continue pumping til cyl is full of grease and you feel resistance. Let this soak for a day and pump some more. Now think of the problems-----you are forcing one cylinder to unstick all 6. Result of this is a busted piston top. Dont ruin an engine with this method------ask me how I know.

With as many Chevy 350 conversions on the '40's it isnt hard to find a running 2F engine for around $500. There is a thread on swapping in a Chevy 292 6cyl on the mud board I sent earlier.
