Installed rear engine guard today on my 1981 Gravely 8199 that was on ebay for z-turn mower. Guard was less that $5 + shipping. Bolted right up to the draw bar. Only had to cut each end were it curse around to the tires.

PS. Only paid a $100 for Gravely tractor & 60" mower with 873 Hours on it. Now have 884 Hours on it.

Excuse me,

You only paid a hundred dollars for which tractor? You cannot be talking about the tractor in the above photos.

Roger,
The tractor with the engine guard on. The 1981 Gravely 8199 w/Onan 19.9 engine and 60" mower deck. Course I had to put a another gas tank on it, new light switch, and the bearing blew up on the forward clutch. And the front grill was cracked, so another grill off ebay. And now another $5 for a engine guard. Do you think I have to much money into it, Roger?

Nice grab on the tractor! And nice job with the engine guard - has that bad-**s hockey goalie mask look to it! :fing32::fing32:
Man that engine guard looks pretty good. How much room is there between the grass catcher?

EIEIO Dag Nab It!

Dallass, I had that guard on my watch list but never put a bid on it and then missed the ending. Looks darn good and I was gonna do the exact same thing with it. :Disgus:

Is that B48G the stock engine on that 8199?
Would it be possible for you to take a photo of the top of your engine with the exhaust and control cabling showing?
I've just mounted a B48G to my 16G and am looking for better ideas for exhaust and cabling than what I've thought of so far.
The engine came off a Craftsman FF20 so it was setup for control from the flywheel side and I'm undecided on how to route throttle cable.
I plan to use the original mufflers for now with some modification.

Thanks,

Max, here are some pictures I took when working on the tractor. If you need one as it is today, I'll take a picture with the air filter off.

Thanks for those pics Dallass! That does help me.

I assume the throttle cable comes in from the left? (I can see an empty cable clip off to the left)
Actually, after going back and looking at your pics of the new rear guard again, I can see the cable coming in from the left.
Mine has a different location with the apparatus mounted to the right of the Onan serial number plate. I'll have to look about alternate configs.
Mine does work now, but it goes under the coil (tight fit) and more importantly it is backward (throttle lever up for idle) :fing20:

Much appreciated!

8199s came with an Onan B48M GA019 engine. 8199KTs came with 19 HP Kohler twins. Many of which blew up and were replaced with Kohler Magnum 20s. The 8199s were the better of the two tractors IMHO.
