Hi, I am an old, new member. I have a Troy Bilt lawn tractor

Model # 188392
13AP609G063

It is about 8 yrs old, very low hours. It was parked outside in the weather 5 years ago. I am wondering if it is worth fixing. I went to an ACE Hardware and they quoted $400.00 just to do basic work on it. Then he will get to the elec. problem and anything else. I am guessing $700.00 at the very minimum. Then I was told that after fixing it and putting gobs of money in it. I might still have a problem several hours after running it. I was told the bearings might give out because of it sitting in the weather all this time.

My question is, is it worth the time and effort to fix it?

thanks. oslo in NC. aka paul:banghead3

Look in your local area and see if anyone wants it, or is taking tractors to fix, if not, I would be headed to the scrapper.

Oslo in NC, it would be nice if you could find a retiree or a small engine hobbyist that would give it a try.
I dont like to scrap them but that would be a lot to spend on the little tractor. Good luck with the project.:thThumbsU

Question Oslo, do you have a votech college in your area that needs a project to help teach students on. Just a thought.

I love getting tractors like this. They typically need very little in the way of parts, if anything at all. A simple service with fluids and filters, usually has them alive and kicking. You can see a couple of my recent rescues in the MTD forum with a 1984 Grasshandler, and the Craftsman forum with an '82 GTII. Both were left in the fields where they'd died 5-10 years earlier. Both engines were locked up, decks were locked up, blah, blah, blah. I had them both running in a matter of minutes, and they were running, driving, and fully working again in no time at all. I had the Craftsman finished in a day, and the Grasshandler took a couple days.

Hope you can find someone in your area to take it off your hands and keep it out of the scrape pile.
